Hashi's and Mercury and Iodine

Hi All, I am new to the group and have been on Lugol's at 100mg (16 drops) for a

few days. First, I was diagnosed in 2005 for Hashimoto's. Past 2 years worked

on my diet to improve and sporadically took iodine. Also pursued alternative

help as I wasn't buying into the " its hereditary " answers from my endo. Took

armour but health continued to decline. Worked with an alternative practice of

MD's and ND's who insisted I chelate the lead which made things worse. The

initial tests I did there indicated I have high lead and mercury along with

other metals no one should have. Stopped the chelation because I felt horrible.

Turns out they were doing it wrong and concentrating more mercury into my brain.

I am now planning to follow Cutler's program to get it out right.

Finally went totally gluten/sugar free over past 6 months with great supplements

that improved health in some areas (inlcuding very low dose iodine - 1.8 mg per

day). Still sliding downhill.

Heard about the iodine protocol, makes complete sense to me, watched several

videos about Brownstein and others talking about it. Started Iodine about 2-3

weeks ago quickly bumping up to 150-200 mg but had detox symptoms. Stopped for

two days (heard I should try pulsing) and started bumping the dose up each day

to get to 100 where I am today. Part of the symptoms I had were similar to

heavy metals getting stirred up and redeposited again. But, my thyroid was

swelling. This concerns me because of the fact that I don't want it any bigger.

Today I noticed I can see it looks bigger and that makes me nervous. After I

stopped for the two days, the swelling I could feel stopped. I feel better when

I take the larger dose and so far no feelings of swelling the noticeable

difference I could see makes me concerned.

Anyway, I recently learned that one has to have mercury in the body in order for

one to get Hashimoto's. I also learned that iodine is a chelator of metals.

Actually, it mobilizes metals.

What are your thoughts/experience in this situation?

My plan is to chelate using the Cutler protocol on weekends (Fri/Sat/Sun). I

could also just use iodine on those days and give the metals a chance to settle

down and my body to recover from the chelation. Has anyone posted about this or

are there other opinions on this topic?

My main two questions are:

Swelling - Oh my gosh I don't want it bigger!

and

Metals/Iodine - does iodine stir up metals and if so, folks ought to proceed

with caution if they have mercury.

Thanks and I love this group (been lurking)!
