Guest guest
I feel that Lugol's has helped me to eliminate bad bacteria and to absorb food better too. I have been taking iodine since June. I built up to about 100mg by August and I am now taking 24 drops in the morning and having 20 more drops spread over the rest of the day. I think this is approximately 250-275mgs every day. I am feeling better than I have felt in a long time.I had a stool test several years ago which showed an extreme amount of bad bacteria and I felt that I never absorbed my food properly. I would always be hungry, no matter what I ate so I ended up eating the amount that allowed me to maintain my weight.I am going to stay at this level for a while as this seems to be the amount I feel really good with.My iron levels have improved and are now at a good level (89). For the last 15 years I have had to take an iron supplements to prevent anemia. My mood has stabilised. I am now able to concentrate easily. I initially noticed that my weight was increasing over the 1st month of taking iodine. I was already taking liver support but I added some more (milk thistle) and my weight seemed to stabilise during the 2nd and 3rd month. At the beginning of October I noticed that my weight had gone back to my pre-iodine weight and that for the first time in my life I was able to eat the amount I needed to eat to be satisfied and energetic ... and not gain weight. I am still being cautious and taking close notice of how my clothes fit out of long habit though. I have had a lot of the detox symptoms but it seems like they have mostly gone (I just still seem to need to sleep a little longer than normal sometimes though 9-10 hrs instead of 7-8). The salt loading and vitamin C helped with the detox symptoms. It also feels like they have been healing my adrenals too. I haven't had any tests done but am just going by how I feel and what I am able to do during the day.As well as all the supporting supplements recommended I also took spirilina and chlorella at times.I have also been giving my son, who is almost 17 and has high functioning autism, iodine (50mg per day) since July (I think) and he seems to be improving also but it is still a little early to tell as I have been inconsistent in giving it to him. But you are right that it bypasses the stomach; It is in tablet form, enteric coated to be released in the small intestine. I think you were smart, Bonnie to realize that it is good for you whole digestive system to be exposed to iodine, thereby taking Lugol's solution. I take Iodoral daily, but I also make sure I take a few drops of Lugol's in liquid form daily. So happy you are doing so well! Kathleen RE: Gut disfunction+STOOL TEST+ Chris: I never tried the Iodoral, I just thought the capsule would OPEN UP after it had the left the stomach and with Bacterial OVERGROWTH in the stomach, that is where I needed it to be. So I thought the liquid would work better AND IT DOES. This test measured the Immune System somehow, and the numbers were supposed to be 400 - 800 and my result was LESS than 19. So I IMMEDIATELY went Gluten - Free and a test a year later showed a remarkable improvement in immune function. The insidiousness of Celiac Disease when you don't have any symptoms, is you end up with immune disorders like Asthma, Arthritis, Cancer and more and you don't know why. Who would suspect that such terrible disorders like these would be caused by something you eat? You need TO KNOW FOR SURE, where your particular problems lie but as far as GUT HEALTH IN GENERAL, I have found Lugol's LIQUID (5%) to be the best $12. I ever spent and PATIENCE because it didn't happen right away. Well, I haven't done a stool sample in years, but I did have allergy testing done, and I was only mildly reactive to gluten. If I had celiac, wouldn't it be obvious? I eat mostly gluten-free these days and it doesn't make things any better. But you have reaffirmed my idea that I want to switch to Lugol's from Iodoral. thanks, Angie On Oct 23, 2011, at 4:14 PM, Bonnie Cole wrote: Angie: I've just read PART of your posts and have something to say about your problems with gut health. I have had the same problems for 9 years (the worst of it) and about 25 years (in a milder form) and nothing much worked for me either. I realized AFTER YEARS OF READING, that I've never made ENOUGH Stomach Acid which allows all kinds of bacteria to move in and set up housekeeping. I've taken TONS of Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes and didn't help a WHOLE LOT, but did help with digestion to some degree. Three years ago I did a Stool Test and sent it out to Washington State to a great LAB there (I'm in Canada) and this was actually a COMBINATION Saliva/Stool Test and unbeknownst to me, they also did a Gluten Test and looked for Pathogens and Amoebas too. Well, I HAD IT ALL. Dangerous bad bacteria, an Amoeba, very little good bacteria, 3 foods allergic to, immune system in the basement, AND Celiac Disease which causes GUT DAMAGE. You should think about getting checked for that. With all the bad bacteria I could NOT eat anything with a bit of sweetener in it. When I discovered IODINE and learned what it can do for me, I decided that IF it would help my Gut Health ONLY, I would be extremely thankful. So thinking about WHERE IT GOES, I thought the LIQUID would work BEST, instead of the pill, mixing with the food and going here and there in the stomach first and then the small intestine where most of the bacteria lived. I think that works better than the Iodoral pill. I was right. I started off at 1 drop daily (Lugol's 5%) for a week, then added another drop till I was up to 12 drops (75 mg.) which took 12 weeks. By the time I got to 8 drops daily (50 mg.) I was beginning to feel better in the gut AND my Diabetes disappeared, Sinus problems, and on and on and by the time I got to 12 drops, my body temperature has now come up to normal. I can actually eat something sweet and not get nauseated AND my Blood Sugar is now GREAT. Since Iodine is Antifungal - my Candida is gone. Iodine is Anti-bacterial - my Sinus problems are gone. Iodine is Anti-Viral - this should take care of the Epstein Barr Virus I carry, plus the Mycoplasma Pnuemonia virus hopefully and a couple of others which cause Sinus & Lung problems. Iodine is Anti-Protozoal - this should take care of the Toxoplasmosis Life is good Angie and maybe if you switched to the 5% Liquid Lugol's your gut would feel better too.
