Iodine and Frequent Skin Infections

My husband has been suffering from frequent skin infections for the last year or so. His MD keeps performing biopsies on these sites and then prescribing antibiotics. By the time the biopsy gets back, the infection has normally spread and those oral antibiotics have become downright necessary.

I got tired of this cycle, so as soon as I'd notice an area going wonky, I'd paint it with iodine. this has prevented the spread of any infection, but it takes a tremendously long time to eliminate any eruptions. (BTW, though I know we're supposed to ignore any patch testing, the iodine I've applied to his skin disappears within an hour. Very interesting to me.)

Is oral iodine supplementation known to help with a condition like this? My husband has been impressed by the topical application of iodine, so he's somewhat open to oral supplementation. Any web links you can give us will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Toni
