Hi Donna:

And thanks for this reply. Of course I understand that we're all different ( I think I knew that 50 years ago) but when experimenting with Iodine INTAKE, we have NOTHING TO FALL BACK ON. There are no published research papers with test results to guide us, no double-blind placebo-controlled studies. And we can't even find doctors that will prescribe it for us. So we NEED to ask those that have followed the "Iodine path" in the past and have some impressions from their experiences. How else can we go confidently forward without some knowledge?

I have been queried by a Clinical Pharmacist and two others about "What? You're drinking Iodine? It says Poison on the bottle, it's only for disinfecting water. You must stop this now".

I'm even afraid to tell my doctor.

So YES, I think we need to ask.

Thanks,

Bonnie

Bonnie,

Remember that everyone’s body, life circumstances, nutrition, etc. are different. There is no magic time frame for iodine healing specific problems. Just like in mainstream medicine, you can’t really predict when things will work. You have to remember that iodine is feeding and nourishing your body, no matter what the results are, or when they happen.

Hi Steph:

Below here you said you took 75 mg. of Iodoral for Ovarian Cysts and got rid of them. Might I ask approximately how long it took?

I'm at 75 mg. and I thought after SO MANY MONTHS, I would go back to 50 mg. and stay there, but I needed a TIMELINE, to figure this out confidentlly.

It has taken me 3 months to get to 75 mg.

Thanks so much,

Bonnie

I am not aware of a specific protocol other than what we advocate here. I removed ovarian cysts by taking 75 mgs of Iodoral and the companion nutrients. Here is a good article that may shed some light on the connection http://www.lewrockwell.com/miller/miller20.html This discusses soaking and painting with iodine but no specific protocol http://www.ehow.com/facts_5018989_benefits-iodine-fibroids.html

Iodine and Uterine Fibroids

Hi all -I'm wondering if you know if the iodine protocol is effective for shrinking uterine fibroids? If so, do you know of a specific protocol that has worked? I've heard of mixing Lugol's with oil and applying it to the abdomen, for example... Do you know if taking iodine orally is effective? I've been taking iodine for about 3 weeks now, following the 50mg protocol, and I've noticed that all lumpiness has disappeared from my breasts - it's actually a shocking difference! I'm hoping that I might be impacting my 4 small fibroids as well... They are embedded in the uterine wall, so I would have to have full abdominal surgery to have them removed. I've also heard that there are other supplements that may help the body "digest" them... I would be grateful for any details or experiences. Thanks!Pam

Hi Steph:

It's called Xenex Labs Lugol's Solution 100 ml POISON with a Skull & Crossed Bones on it and made here in Canada. One Pharmacist says I could take one drop a week if I wanted to and another one said it is only for disinfecting water.

It IS Lugol's. I thought they all said Poison on them.

I looked at the MSDS For this product and it is Lugol's. The sheet states toxicity occurs at 2 - 4 grams (2,000 - 4,000 mgs).

I thought some of you might be interested to know that my husband, who is a

chiropractor, attended a seminar yesterday with Dr. Brownstein, and was able to

ask him directly about uterine fibroids (which was the original conversation in

this thread). Dr. Brownstein said that in his experience all fibroids stop

growing with the iodine protocol (i.e. 50+mg/day, natural salt and possible

co-factors), and small ones tend to disappear altogether. Larger fibroids may

shrink. He also recommends natural hormones including natural (NOT synthetic)

progesterone for this and other women's health issues of similar causation. He

said that DHEA and Pregnenolone are both especially effective for fertility. If

you're interested in more information on this I suggest you consult his book,

The Miracle of Natural Hormones, since I am not an expert and cannot provide

further information on this topic. All the best! Pam

Hi Pam,

Thanks for this info.

One thing about DHEA, if you have adrenals that are not functioning properly, DHEA is NOT a good thing to take. Many of us have problems with our adrenals and it is NOT recommended to take DHEA.

I am fighting with my dad about this right now. He just won't listen to me because of what Dr. Brownstein wrote in his book. (Natural Hormones) Anyway, I am frustrated because he was feeling really good, but won't address the adrenals properly and now is adding DHEA. I wish we could find someone locally that worked with the Iodine, my dad would go to them. But we haven't been able to find anyone. We are in the 92404 zip code, in case anyone knows of someone. Thanks, grace!  That's interesting...  I've also heard the opposite, but I've personally never needed to address adrenal fatigue so (thankfully) I have no experience with that...  I find that with natural methods, one thing may work well for one person and not for another...  I hope that anyone taking hormonal supplements in particular researches them in relation to their specific condition...  And I hope that my original post was not taken to encourage the use of DHEA or pregnenolone...  My intention was to simply state what Dr. Brownstein told my husband for the benefit of the group...  All the best - Pam

I beg to differ on this. Dr. Brownstein gave me DHEA AND Pregnenolone which are two pre-cursors to the adrenal hormone cascade. He did it when I was severely adrenal fatigued. I am wondering where you got the idea that DHEA is detrimental to adrenal fatigued individuals. It certainly has helped me recover.

That zip code doesn't help me with your location as I would have to look it up. You can look at the list of iodine practitioners on www.breastcancerchoices.org.

My recent experience with DHEA....6 days of 5 mg. Caused moderate to severe

acne, very sore nipples like I was pregnant. If your adrenal arent working

right, the pathyways to conversion maynot work for you. My sister got ovarian

cysts from DHEA. For now, I woill stop taking it!

If your sister had been taking enough (or any at all because you didn't say) iodine the risk of ovarian cysts is slim. I doubt (actually) that DHEA was the cause. PCOS is more than likely the issue where there are blood sugar issues.

Personally I think Pregnenolone is a better choice because it is a precursor to

the

hormones, not an actual hormone. That way one's body can use the precursors to

its own best advantage. Of course in some cases, the ability to make hormones

has been impaired, but in general, imo, it is better to first try providing the

body with

building blocks than with the hormones themselves, to see if the person can

respond.

In my case, pregnenolone was the key to adrenal recovery.

Hi ,

I got that info from the Thyroid group. I do know you have to be cautious with DHEA. I have read you need to use it with a doctor's care. My dad hasn't had any tests and isn't using a doctor at this point. He has no idea what any of his levels are, so that is why I have told him to be cautious. I just wish we could find someone locally that we could go to.

Right now, he has become very tired again. He still feels much better than he did though. And I love seeing that.

I am in the Inland Empire, in Southern California. If you know of someone, I would love to know. I have called several doctors on the thyroid lists and no one uses Iodine as a treatment for anything. Very discouraging. Glowing, grace~

Also about DHEA and adrenals, when I was at my worst with adrenals/thyroid,

never had been on DHEA, my holistic nutritionist put me on small amt. of DHEA,

10 mg., daily and that really worked for me......Too much DHEA can overtax your

adrenals, but good in small amt......Now that I'm well, I still take 10 mg. and

also take pregnenolone daily....

I know when I took DHEA my ovarian cyst started to get bigger, so I quit taking

DHEA. This happened while even taking 50mg Iodoral daily. When I stopped DHEA my

cyst stopped growing. This was verified with ultrasounds. V

Is there any pregnenolone that is better than another? My doctor has me on

DHEA, and I do not see where it is helping at all.

Is Lugol's liquid also balanced, like Iorodol? (not sure on spelling right

now....I got everything I need except the selenium, so just waiting on that to

start...)

Becky you may also need pregnenolone. They are both precursor hormones. I take both.

Here is some info on pregnenolone (ignore the sales info) http://www.antiaging-systems.com/165-pregnenolone-metabolite
