Achieving beautiful glowing skin is the dream of many people.

Beauty begins with the skin. You need to be healthy-inside and

out-for true beauty to shine through and enhance your

appearance.

For some, beauty is heaven's gift; others need to take certain

steps to improve their beauty with products. Whatever the case

may be, if you want to look your best, you need to set your skin

right before you can begin your beautification process.

Beauty-Skin Deep

Don't forget your skin when choosing beauty products. Start with

the skin and give it top priority. During the process of

enhancing your skin's beauty, you might face many problems

including dull, dry skin, uneven skin tone, and more. There might

also be problems you aren't of working beneath your skin and

causing irreversible damages.

Introduction To Free Radicals

Any idea what those problems might be? It's likely they are the

work of free radicals. You may heard of the term but probably

don't know what it means. So what are the facts and effects of

free radicals?

Basically, free radicals are compounds with a high reactivity.

They are found in our body primarily in two ways-either they are

created in the body over the course of normal metabolic functions

or they are introduced from the environment. By nature, free

radicals are unstable since they contain " extra " energy. To

lessen the burden of this extra energy, free radicals react with

certain chemicals in the body. During this process, free radicals

interfere with normal cell function normally and attack the

cells.

As you know, the human body is made up of varied types of cells,

which, in turn, are composed of molecules. These molecules

consist of atoms of single or multiple elements. All of these are

held together by chemical bonds. The chain reaction caused by

free radicals helps decompose many substances, especially at high

temperatures, but is this suitable and desired in the human body?

Free radicals cause damage to your skin. What can we do to

rescue our bodies from its clutches?

Detrimental Effects Of Free Radicals

Cell membranes in our body are made of unsaturated lipids. These

cell membranes contain unsaturated lipid molecules that are

highly susceptible to the damaging nature of free radicals

Free radicals are known to cause oxidative damage; that is one of

the chemical reactions that free radicals instigate. Oxidative

damage can lead to hardening of lipids, and when they harden,

sometimes they are completely damaged. Lipids are the substances

that form the wall of cells in our body.

Once the lipids are hardened, then the cells will not be able to

properly acquire nutrients. Hardened cells have difficulty

communicating with other cells and the body suffers. Most

cellular activities will also be handicapped and free radicals

can cause major damages to biological molecules such as DNA, RNA,

enzymes, mitochondria, and more. This damage causes cancer,

mutations, aging, Parkinson's disease, atherosclerosis,

emphysema, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's disease, and many, many

more.

Even though free radicals are essential in many functions of our

bodies, if they become excessive, then the damage can spiral out

of control quickly. For example, as we age, the damages caused by

free radicals are more conspicuously felt.

Remedies-Vitamins And Minerals

Nevertheless, there is light at the end of the tunnel-remedies do

exist to give you relief and respite.

The most effective and proven form of protection against free

radical damages are antioxidants. Many types of antioxidant

enzymes like super oxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and

glutathione peroxidase are produced in our bodies. These are

nature's weapons to fight free radicals. Oral supplements of

these enzymes are available.

You can also strengthen your body by eating a balanced diet that

consists of nutrients like manganese, zinc, copper, and

selenium.

That diet should also include vitamins-namely C, E, and B2-and

minerals like beta-carotene, lutein, and lycopene. Vitamin E

prevents heart disease by acting against oxidation and plaque

formation. Vitamin C protects you from cancers of the mouth,

esophagus, and larynx.

Herbs like curcumin, gingko, and bilberry are also powerful

weapons to fight free radicals. These ingredients are like

scavengers, searching out free radicals in the body and

preventing damage to cells and tissues. At the same time, the

amount of intake should be optimal, neither more nor less, say

about 5-8 servings of a balanced diet of fruits and vegetables.

There are also cosmetic products like Lumnaderm, which

effectively neutralize free radicals. Lumnaderm reduces the

damage caused by the excessive and undesired spread of free

radicals. Lumnaderm is available from

http://www.bodestore.com and http://www.amazon.com.
