Guest guest
I have never done the iodine loading test and neither have many others. Our environment is so full of toxic halides and our food supply so deficient in iodine, that for myself, I know I need iodine and don’t feel the need to take the loading test. It is totally a personal choice. The Iodine Protocol is very easy to follow, make sure you take the companion nutrients. If you do experience detox symptoms, the Salt Loading Protocol is also very easy to follow. Good luck. Kathleen * HI, HELP... I'm getting discouraged! Hi Y'All,Upfront and honest: I am a registered nurse, have the added advantage of a medical background to grasp much of all this, am exceedingly resourceful, and have further, been studying related literature and holistic health for umpteen years!I have been studying the literature on iodine, and even just last night came across information which has eluded me (and the vast public at large) for years on end; further revealing (for the first time with confirmation) that MUCH of what I have had to endurefrom my acute hypothyroidism ALL of these years, a lifetime in fact (inclusive of two surgeries which COULD have been avoided - had I known this stuff YEARS AGO), could all have been avoided with the proper intake of something as simple as iodine! UNBELIEVABLE!That being said, I WANT to start on the iodine protocol ASAP. I amawaiting Dr. Brownstein's book, but upon closer examination, am finally finding MORE information here via this group, than previouslyrealized or tapped. So now I read the below about the important of iodine loading testing first! Lord have mercy. Plus, all this stuff costs $$$!So, to do this right, I first need to find out where and how to order this test - right. Then order it and pay for it. Then get it done. Then get the results. Then order the Iodoral. Then start on it. Then study MORE about the salt protocol and how best to minimize the detox symptoms and clear the pathways.THIS is a full time job and I am OUT of money after losing my health for the past two years from the Armour fiasco! Not switching to NT till after 1.5 years when I finally put the pieces together. And now finally on ERFA Thyroid as of four weeks ago (thankfully beginning to do better - but not 100%).I'm not trying to be negative, but have many of you out there pre-empted the iodine loading test? Do you need a doctor's order for one, or to interpret the results. Sure, I can find the answer to this too, no doubt, but where, and then THAT = even more time!ANY valuable guidance or encouragement would be greatly appreciated! My money's gone, I have to move, look for a P.T. job, HOPE that I havethe energy to even work P.T., and somehow do all of this while I dealwith countless other things... all at the age of 57.THANK YOU! T.H.If a patient has a normal or high Loading Test score in the presence of known iodine deficiency condition such as breast or thyroid disease, a defect in the Sodium Iodide Symporter (NIS) mechanism is suspected. The iodine taken during the loading test may pass into the urine unabsorbed giving a false normal reading. Follow your physician's iodine dosing carefully to see how the iodine test result changes. Guest guest
I hear you T.H. about the full time job to regain your health. I'm 5 years into my Hashi's/adrenal crash and thank goodness for these online groups where I found out about NT (I'm on ERFA too) and fortunately learned about the Armour fiasco so I knew to switch after crashing on their reformulation. I have not done the iodine loading test either, and as Kathleen says, and I have heard Dr. Brownstein himself say on a conference call I was on a few years ago with him, 99% are deficient. Having the results would be interesting. I'd think that knowing the bromide load might be helpful in preparing for a detox experience. And, the test costs $ that I'd rather put into something else at this point.Janet iodine From: kathleenblake@...Date: Fri, 30 Sep 2011 22:31:17 -0700Subject: Re: * HI, HELP... Guest guest
Hi Trisha, I can sympathize with you. My 20 yr old daughter has Hashi's, papillary carcinoma and few other issues to boot. I was very nervous on starting her on iodine. There were so many mixed opinions out there. We had been down a few expensive bunny trails and financially things are very tight. I did purchase the Iodine loading test before she started iodine. I tested her for iodine, bromide and flouride. In retrospect I would have done it differently. I would have started her on Iodoral without the test and then after several months tested her levels. It is almost a given the bromide levels will be elevated. And iodine low. Again, if I knew then what I know now. Test not in the beginning but after several months. The motto I used with my daughter was " low and slow " . We started at 12.5 mg and very gradually moved to up. She also started painting her neck about 5 x/week WITH coconut oil (learned the hard way on that one) Now that is just my two cents, I am just a mom who loves the Lord, my family and enjoys research. God Bless, and know things will get better one step at a time, Luci > > Hi Y'All, > > Upfront and honest: I am a registered nurse, have the added advantage of a medical background to grasp much of all this, am exceedingly resourceful, and have further, been studying related literature and holistic health for umpteen years! > > I have been studying the literature on iodine, and even just last night came across information which has eluded me (and the vast public at large) for years on end; further revealing (for the first time with confirmation) that MUCH of what I have had to endure > from my acute hypothyroidism ALL of these years, a lifetime in fact (inclusive of two surgeries which COULD have been avoided - had I known this stuff YEARS AGO), could all have been avoided with the proper intake of something as simple as iodine! Guest guest
I started seeing Dr. Brownstein in Feb 2006 with active thyroid cancer. We did not test iodine levels with a loading test until August of that year at my request. So it isn't something you have to do. We knew that if I was sick I would be low and probably toxic. The test only confirmed just how bad I was. Buist, ND HC Re: * HI, HELP... I'm getting discouraged! Hi Trisha, I can sympathize with you.
