Guest guest
, Ok thanks. My weigh in days are Monday and I lost 1 pound. I won't do the steps as there is only 1 week left. Maybe another month. That is good to move during commercials. I did that when I watched Ray but I don't watch TV during the day anymore. Guest guest
Welcome De! I am a newbie here too. I have about 150 lbs to lose more or less. I think it is best if you think of this as a new way of life and not a " diet. " To me, there are 3 facets of my healthy journey. They include changing my food intake, drinking a lot of water, and exercising. You may want to startwith a food journal and writing down what you eat, and what time of day you ate it, and what your mood and feelings were at the time so you can see patterns etc and it will be clearer what you need to change and hopefully bring to light the emotional difficulties you need to conquer. Basically my philosophy is nothing is completely off limits food wise - but eating smaller portions is a must. Drinking water is so important - and it is really so easy and one of the things I have the hardest time working on. And having a group like this to turn to can really be helpful. Even if you just read what others are doing, it can be so motivating. Glad you're here and hope to get to know you better.Jen BakerOn Dec 9, 2007 10:17 AM, De <deanna_emerson@... > wrote: I am also new to this group. I have never been a member of a group, so I am not sure how it all works. I have a friend who has just admitted she is an alcoholic. She turned to a group for support and has found that invaluable. She is also attending AA every day. As we talked the other day, I shared that I wished there was a similar support for weight issues. She suggested that I try a search, and here I am. I am currently at 252 lbs, I have hovered here for at least 5 years. The last diet I strted was the Body for Life. I lost 20lbs in about 5 weeks, then I dropped it. It seems that I always do that. I have success, then I walk away. I believe this is a deeper emotional issue, and feel that if I could get to the root of that, I could succeed. I'm not sure how to dig into that issue. Any suggestions?

It happens to everyone, especially if you hit a plateau and get so totally frustrated because you're eating less and less but not losing weight as your body's metabolism gets used to the lower calorie intake. Or maybe you're just subconsciously rebelling against the deprivation. People always want what they can't have, and isn't that what a diet is, controlled deprivation? I believe this is a deeper emotional > issue, and feel that if I could get to the root of that, I could > succeed. I'm not sure how to dig into that issue. Any suggestions? If you feel there's a psychological or emotional element, you can either find a therapist who specializes in eating disorders or maybe visit an Overeaters Anonymous meeting or 2. You can read some of their literature here: http://www.oa.org or look in your library, book stores, or one of the hundreds (thousands?) of and web sites out there. You can even go with your friend to her AA meetings, and when the speaker mentions " drinking " substitute " compulsive overeating " and " food " for " alcohol. " That's what many OA people do when they have no OA meetings (or any decent ones) where they live. Sue in NJ

I'd say no rules, really - share what you are comfortable with because most certainly others have gone through it and can offer advice and information or are feeling the same way and will learn from what you are going through. Pick something that you *know* you can/will do for life (just tossing this one out there: weight watchers) - what we do to lose weight is what we are going to have to do to maintain that loss, no matter what program you are on. So, if you do JC or NS or something like those wt loss centers, be sure you are learning along the way the proper way to shop/prepare foods and portion sizes because sooner or later you will want/need to go off the boxed meals. ;-) See AOL's top rated recipes and easy ways to stay in shape for winter. If I start telling myself I can't have things I begin to obsess about them. I don't know what "it" was, but last week "corndogs" was my obsession and I ate them all. Only a box of 6 and over several days, but I think I got it out of my system. See AOL's top rated recipes and easy ways to stay in shape for winter. Guest guest
Personally I wish that worked for me. If I ate those things even once a month I'd end up gaining weight for the month, they effect me that badly. I haven't had even a bite of flour or sugar in over three years, and believe me I'm not obsessing over it. I had to learn to change how I felt about those foods, because I realized that the cost of eating them was giving up the rest of my life. Now when I think of eating them I realize how much they will set me back, how they will make me feel bad, how bad they are for me and I don't eat them. *Occasionally* I will have some special diet dessert like sugar-free ice cream or sugar-free cookies made from nuts instead of flour, but in the last 3.5 years I've only had sugar-free ice cream twice and the cookies once. Believe me that felt like a huge treat, without all the sugar.I know not everyone has to be as strict as me to lose weight, and I envy those folks. Sometimes I cry because it seems so unfair when everyone around me makes little changes and they lose, and I change everything I can (exercise, strict diet, lots of water, lots of sleep, vitamins, etc.) and stay the same or sometimes even gain. But being upset won't change my reality, so I had to learn to embrace it. Just sharing what works for me.Luv, Debby San , CA 147 pounds lost! 100% of health issues reversed! Oh, I hear ya, Deb! LOL The men, especially. Hubby can get on the scale, see he gained maybe 5 pounds over the course of 6 months, skip eating potato chips for a week or 2 and Poof! All gone! Go back to eating the chips and his weight stays the same. I just *look* at potato chips and gain 5 pounds of water weight that now takes 6 months to get off! Guest guest
Hi Pat!It's good to see you, and thanks for having us ;)I go by Taryn, I'm in WY. I'm 5'0 " , weigh 285 lbs at the moment, and I'm struggling to get some good habits in place to help me lose the spare 160+ lbs I'm currently wearing. The ladies here are very supportive and helpful with ideas, and full of cheerings on for when one's weight heads downwards. Again, so glad to have you here!Taryn in WYOn Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 6:28 PM, Pat Meares <pat.meares@...> wrote: Hi! I just joined the list and I'm looking forward to being here. Guest guest
Welcome to all the new members. I hope you all find what you're looking for here. Be sure to check out the Archives, Links and Files sections on the Group's web site, and if you want, look at the Database and join in on the weekly weigh-ins (totally optional and voluntary). As frequently says, start with baby steps - journal, portion size and water. Any questions, just go ahead and ask - I'm sure someone can answer. If you have any tips or tricks, go ahead and post them. We need all the help we can get sometimes. If you have any gripes, complaints or frustrations, go ahead and post them, too. I'm sure *many* of us have gone through the same thing or something similar and may be able to offer a suggestion or just a friendly shoulder to cry on. Guest guest
Hi Kathy and Welcome! Have you read the New Member doc. you were sent when you joined? If you didn’t save it, go to FILES then New Member doc., then Commonly Asked Questions and Answers and you will learn much about iodine and the supporting nutrients. Kelp is not the best source for iodine these days as the oceans are very polluted and much kelp is contaminated with arsenic and heavy metals and toxins. You will read that Lugol's is the best iodine suggested for thyroid health. Please put the ranges on your thyroid tests as it is difficult to interpret the numbers without the ranges. Again, please read read read all you can on our site. And again, welcome! Best, Kathleen New Hi, I'm new to your list & need to learn about supporting my thyroid. Many rely on body temps.
