Guest guest
There are not different qualities, there are different strengths. There is always the same ration of iodine and iodide, just how much water is in the solution. The strengths are usually 2%, 5% and 7%. Donna in IL Hello everyone,i just read some stuff about the different sorts of Lugols and now am concerned if i have the correct sort / form. Here i always went to a drug-store and told them to mix me a Lugols-solution with 5% for aquarium use. Had no problem to get it though some other drug-stores say they make it only for receipe. So does anyone know how are the facts in Germany? I asked also if i can use that Lugols for wounds, they said i can use it. And she said there is only 1 receipe for Lugols and no matter where i order Lugols, i always get the same ingredients and quality. But i read that there are different qualities? Thanks for help
Guest guest
Lugol's solution is always made the same way. 2 parts potassium iodide and 1 part iodine. The only thing that changes is the %. You can have typically 1, 2, 5 or 7% solution. In France where I live I can only get the 1% solution and I believe this is typical in the European Community. So I buy the 1% stuff and multiply the dose by 5. The quality should not vary, only the quantity. What is the problem about making it "only for receipe"? I don't understand. MacG. Guest guest
If you get it from a pharmacy or similar source, it will all be the same quality. If you are buying raw materials to make your own, you need to verify that the quality is USP or above. But the pharmacy isn't taking into account that someone might make their own, so when they say it's all the same quality, they mean, if ordered through a pharmacy. -- > <s.macgilxrist@...> wrote: > > Lugol's solution is always made the same way.2 parts potassium > iodide and 1 part iodine.
