I filled up an empty bottle of mustard for my husbandand mixed it with salt and water and had him use it for a sinusinfection. Worked great ....and it's another way to recycle/reuse those used upbottles. I think that's the basic shape of those salt water solution bottles that are sold in the drug stores. For those that don't have a Netti pot...I got this recommendation from my brother who is a Naturopath. Use a syringe and fill the contents of that. Lye on the bed on your back with your head over the side. Fill your nostrils from the syringe and let it sit for a long as you can tolerate (30 seconds or less for me) and then empty out in the sink. I have done this many times in the past with salt and water.

Sorry, should have kept reading before I posted about neti pots.  In an emergency (airport in the middle of two long flights) I used a plain water bottle and salt from Macs.  Worked.  But here's what I wrote in another thread about neti pot alternatives:

If you really can't deal with a neti pot, I can recommend this electric version:

http://www.hydromedonline.com/  -- also available on Amazon.Kind of like a WaterPik for your nose.

We got one for my four year old son who just could not manage the admittedly difficult neti pot.  The nasal irrigator is expensive but in our house was worth it.  Before we had it my son was sick for three months each winter due to mold and dust allergies.  I had recurrent sinus infections.

Since we started using it, the problems have nearly disappeared (he's now 9).  Very helpful for all members of the family when you start to get that " Oh No here comes a cold " sensation.  Washes out the brewing germs.  Saves money and tragedy from antibiotics.

We make our own salt/baking soda solution 3:1, with a pinch of xylitol if I have it.  Maybe I'll start iodine in my liquid as well.Lynn

For those of you who use a water-pic, there is a sinus " irrigator " attachment

available from drugstore.com---I have it and use it on my water pic every other

day and my sinus' have never been so clean and healthy.....use it with natural

sea salt...I like it much better than netti pot....

Blessings, Margaret

Thanks for posting this Lynn. It is a bit pricey and I'm wondering if anyone knows of a more reasonably priced one?Janet iodine From: lynnreid@...Date: Fri, 16 Sep 2011 16:08:57 +0800Subject: Re: Alternative to Netti pot & Iodine

Has anyone tried anything more potent than salt and iodine in their neti? I switch every day between sea salt and iodine trying to get rid of a post-nasal drip I believe is left over from a sinus infection. Ain' working as fast as I'd like. Any suggestions? Jim

Jim,Put the salt, iodine and a pinch of xylitol in the neti pot together each time you do it. I would also do it 2-3 times per day. That sometimes is what it takes for us to clear it up. I have used the tooth pic, for nasal irrigation, the neti pot, and graduated to a nebulizer, they are less than forty on amazon, they were impossible for me to find locally, the pharmacies wanted a script from an MD. What a crock, I use a charged type of iodine and half twelve percent hydrogen peroxide. works well.  Most sinus problems I read are yeast related, but iodine and peroxide moves um out. david lubbock tx.
