Guest guest
Because it is a measurement of what you have ingested over the last 48 hours - circulating and excreting levels. The Iodine loading test that we recommend requires that you stop taking iodine for 48 hours prior to the test. You ingest a specific amount of iodine (50 mgs Iodoral) and then you collect the urine for 24 hours. They then measure from the sample you send in the amount of iodine you put out in your urine. What your body does not need it will send out into the urine. The percentage of the 50 mgs that is excreted is the amount that determines your full body saturation levels. However, there is one glitch. If your body is toxic in bromide (which is why we recommend bromide levels) your iodine receptors will be blocked with bromide and you will be unable to take in the iodine which forces more out into the urine giving you a false positive higher value of saturation. The test you had done shows none of that - only what is present in blood and urine. There is no control point. Guest guest
Most people don't test for iodine levels. Why are you testing? Guest guest
That's why it is not a good test. It is based on deficient people as normal and it registers what is in the bloodstream. Since you are supplementing it will be high. I don't know what "normal" is for those of us taking iodine with these tests. They have no value for determining body saturation levels. That is why I said they are useless. They don't tell you how much your body is using. Only the 24 hour loading test will tell you this. Guest guest
I've had two iodine loading 24 hr urine tests, one in March and one in October, and both times my excretion rate was over 100%! My bromine levels were also high: 62 in March and 42 in October, so I understand this could be blocking my body's ability to "use" the iodine. But how do you get the bromine levels low enough for the cells to begin taking in and utilizing the iodine??! Or does my lower bromine level more recently tend to indicate that the iodine I've been taking is starting to finally "take?" I started very very low and went up very gradually, not exceeding 25 mg per day shortly before the test. I TOTALLY stopped taking ANY iodine 50 hours before starting the test, and was careful not to paint any on my skin. Still, it was over 100 percent. I have been trying to get my intake up to 50 mg of Iodoral daily, but find that I always get throat pain when I do, and have to roll it back down. I find that Iosol does not give me the throat pain as much as Iodoral, so lately have been taking 8 drops of Iosol + a half tablet of 12.5 mg Iodoral. Will try going back to a whole tablet + Iosol soon, but very nervous about the pain, afraid I will damage my thyroid or induce autoimmune condition. Thanks for any feedback.
