Guest guest
Kathleen: The reason I asked this question is something that said, when I asked about my TSH going DOWN, now that I was 2 months on Iodine and she said that it means that MY THYROID WAS NOW BECOMING MORE EFFICIENT. So I thought that if my husband's TSH was QUITE LOW, that meant his Thyroid was EFFICIENT. In that case, how would his Thyroid benefit from taking Iodine? I think I'm confused here. But low TSH really has nothing to do with whether one should take iodine or not. If someone else knows differently, please chime in. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, Remember that iodine is used by every part of the body, not just the thyroid. Iodine protects us from cancer (breast cancer for example). It is good for our glands, mucous linings, our eyes, the list is endless. So yes, no matter our TSH, iodine is vital to our health. Especially since daily we are bombarded with bromides, chorides, fluoride; iodine helps our bodies move these toxic halides out of our systems. So yes, iodine is good for everyone no matter their TSH. Kind regards, Kathleen LOW TSH Hello: If a person has LOW TSH, should they be taking Iodine or not? Guest guest
I said it COULD mean that your thyroid was being more efficient but then later commented on Kathleen's post that she was correct in saying that the Free T3 and Free T4 levels would be a better marker for what your thyroid was doing and I agree. TSH is a pituitary hormone and not a thyroid hormone so you cannot determine thyroid health based on its value.
