Guest guest
....very interesting post, as I too have seen a similar effect --> an unexplained rise in BS levels. Prior to (re)starting the iodine on July 1st, my fasted/morning BS averaged around 80-90. One month later I'm now averaging 100-110 (with zero dietary changes). So there's obviously a reason for this, and I've been cycling thru every food/supplement that I take (except the Iodine) and just can't connect the dots here. As Marge said, I'm guessing that most here don't monitor their BG levels and would have no idea if there was a change. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Guest guest
Google dry forms of Vitamin E, you'll find several brands. Not currently taking it and can't remember the brand I used to use. Are you taking any prescription meds? Linn > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Anyone have any experience with this? Guest guest
I would sit down and put everything you're taking into a spreadsheet so you can see what the totals of all the ingredients in each supplement are. I think you may be doubling up on a few items. The Now Thyroid Energy contains selenium and B Vitamins which you may be doubling up on. It also contains ashwagandha which can increase selenium levels. Selenium and B3 can increase blood sugar. I'm assuming you're taking the niacin to help with cholesterol. Timed release form should not be taken high dose, you'd want the flushing type instead (which is what should be taken for cholesterol issues). Omega 3's can also raise blood sugar. What brand is the Alaskan Salmon Oil? The Simvastatin could also be causing blood sugar issues. More here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-mark-hyman/do-statins-cause-diabetes_b_712929.h\ tml Mylan is under investigation for consistency issues. Are you routinely getting thyroid testing done? If not, I would get testing soon and maybe consider switching to a different source for thyroid meds. More here: http://thyroid.about.com/b/2009/07/28/mylan-drugs-scandal-thyroid.htm Why are you taking iron? In Flechas' work, all the diabetics tested improved their diabetes, half were able to get off and stay off of meds, all were able to improve their BG's although some were not able to totally discontinue their meds, but definitely were able to lower meds or drop a med, if taking more than one. I'm assuming the low dose aspirin is for heart attack prevention. There are many side effects of taking this. Taking enzymes like VitalzymX, Wobezym, etc. would be of more help and safe for your body. Would also help with blood sugar issues. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Yes, Celtic, and psyllium husk. My BG was consistently 115, pre-diabetic, before I started taking Chromium and ALA in March, after which it fell into the 90s. I'm watching my BG to try not to become diabetic.Linn, this is great feedback and I will try to figure out if I'm taking too much of anything. The thing is, the only thing I've changed since I started taking Iodoral is I increased C, from 1,000mg to 4,000mg in conjunction with increasing Iodoral from 12.5 to 25 to 37.5 and now 50mg. So, of course, I look at the changes - Iodoral and C - to be the cause of the change in BG.I have Hashis. I was on T4-only for 20 years and I've just been on T4/T3 since June. I'm going on NP Thyroid next month after I see my doc. My last labs were in May and I will be taking new labs next week. I wanted to get my Iodoral stable before I switch to NP. I'm taking iron because I was anemic after my hysterectomy in 2008. I remember being anemic in high school and taking B-12 shots then.Yes, Niacin for cholesterol. The Timed Release Niacin is 250mg and in the b complex 100mg. Is that too high? I can easily stop taking it. I wouldn't take the Niaspan my doctor wanted me to take and it turns out new studies show it's not effective.I have read the Hyman article (he's great) and I'm going on NP mainly to see if I can get my cholesterol down (as others have done) and get off the statin.Omega oil right now is Wholemega, but it's so expensive, so I'm going on something else as soon as it runs out..Thanks for all your help. Never had this in the past. Also sometimes my urine takes on a different smell but not nearly as strong as the body odor. Here's the link on the Breast Cancer site that lists it as a detox symptom. http://breastcancerchoices.org/bromidedetoxsymptomsandstrategies.html Lil > > May I ask what a “bromide†smell smells like? > > thanks, > Pam H. >
Guest guest
Let us know how much selenium you end up with from everything. Vit C could be causing a little BG rise too. What form are you using? Try backing down the Vit C to 500 mg 4/times daily for a total of 2000 mg and monitor the BG's and see if that makes any difference. Maybe switch to flushing form of niacin. Lots of good info here: http://www.doctoryourself.com/hoffer_niacin.html http://www.doctoryourself.com/niacin.html Have you had iron levels checked recently? I would hesitate to keep taking iron without it. Guest guest
Selenium - total 250mcg - I've read between 200 - 400 is okay.I had Ferritin checked recently and it was 96 (13 - 150 range), but I didn't stop taking my iron before the labs. I'll check serum iron, TIBC and % saturation with my next labs. I understand I have to stop taking iron for 5 days before. What I don't understand is why. If I'm taking 65mg of elemental iron and my lab work says my iron level is okay, then I would continue at that amount. If I'm high, then I would stop or reduce the iron. If I'm low, I would add more. Do you know what stopping accomplishes?Read the niacin articles. I haven't had any side effects I know of from the niacin, probably because the dose isn't very high according to the Hoffer article. I hated the flushing when I first took niacin years ago. I take the b complex (100mg) in the morning and the niacin (250mg) at night. Vitamin C is from CostCo "1000mg with Rose Hips and Citrus Bioflavonoid Complex". I'm going to shift down to your 500mg 4/day and see what happens. Here's some good news. This is the end of week 4 on Iodoral - 50mg for this last week. Since my hysterectomy and radiation in 2008, I haven't been able to sleep more than 3 hours before having to get up and pee. For the last three nights, I've slept 6 hours straight without waking. And when I wake up, there isn't the same urgency to jump out of bed and head for the bathroom. I feel marvelous. I hope it's the iodine and not the Vitamin C!MargeFrom: Linn <mwm1glm@...>iodine Sent: Sun, August 28, 2011 4:25:32 PMSubject: Re: Iodoral and glucose Let us know how much selenium you end up with from everything. Guest guest
Sorry to say that I found a pic of the back of the label here: http://www.pureformulas.com/e200-hg-by-biotics-research.htmlwhich shows that this E does contain soy.JudyThey that trust in the LORD shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever. Guest guest
Selenium - total 250mcg - I've read between 200 - 400 is okay.I had Ferritin checked recently and it was 96 (13 - 150 range), but I didn't stop taking my iron before the labs. I'll check serum iron, TIBC and % saturation with my next labs. Read the niacin articles. I'm going to shift down to your 500mg 4/day next week and see what happens - I'll let you know.Just remembered I added Milk Thistle also when I started on Iodoral, but I doubt if that would have a negative impact on my BG.Thanks,MargeFrom: Linn <mwm1glm@...>iodine Sent: Sun, August 28, 2011 4:25:32 PMSubject: Re: Iodoral and glucose Let us know how much selenium you end up with from everything. Guest guest
I would back the selenium down to 100 mcg since you're taking astragalus also. I would also get selenium levels checked. Diabetics are known to have higher levels. I don't agree with the philosophy of stopping iron prior to testing. Don't think it's necessary. Since you've had a hyst, I would be hesitant to continue taking iron, particularly since your ferritin is good now. Also it would be a good idea to get a CBC/diff at the same time as the iron labs to determine if you truly need to supplement. Since you're not menstruating anymore, iron levels can build up. A woman's heart attack risk rises after menopause. Menstruation depletes any iron toxicities. Let us know if the Vit C has any changes for the BG's. I don't know of any adverse effect of milk thistle on blood sugar. The only other thing I can think of is if you've had radiation, that might make a difference. I know some of the folks here who had chemo and radiation have had to get up to fairly high levels of iodine (100 mgs or more) prior to noticing improvement. Guest guest
Be very careful with high iron levels since it leads to Alzheimers. Men and women who don't menstruate should give blood if iron levels are high. There is no other way to get rid of high iron levels. Guest guest
Here is another article about IP6: http://www.life-enthusiast.com/index/Education/Cleansing/Rice_Bran_Cleanse It does work and it does more than just lower iron. It's cheap too. Swansonvitamins.com carries it in a high pill count bottle in their name brand. Dianne > > > Be very careful with high iron levels since it leads to Alzheimers.
