Guest guest
My A1C has gone up since I started using Lugol's. I've been confused as all I have read is the opposite. Also, since I'v been using Lugol's i have also had less cravings for sweets and carbs which one would think would lead to lower blood sugar. I am really bad about taking my daily blood tests so don't know what is going on daily - but really before I started the Lugol's I never had issues, my A1C was happily in the within rage numbers for a few years with no changes in medications. I'm not about to stop the iodine though as there are plenty more positives to make up for this, and my hope is that as I continue to lose weight (I've lost almost 20 in the last about 4 months now) the diabetes won't even be an issue, but I would love if anyone understands the mechanism behind this, and could help me change it. Thanks. On Aug 22, 2011, at 6:53 AM, dillyem wrote: Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Anyone have any experience with this? Guest guest
, thanks. There was a lot of very interesting information I didn't know about at that link. I was actually wondering and was going to ask the group how long I need to take high doses of Vitamin C with my Iodoral. I'm now on 50mg of Iodoral and taking 4000 IUs of Vitamin C. I was planning to stay here a week and then gradually reduce the Vitamin C back to 1000mg over several weeks. I'm not sure how long to stay at 50mg of Iodoral - probably forever:) Does this sound like a good plan?MargeFrom: <ldanaila@...>iodine Sent: Tue, August 23, 2011 4:07:49 AMSubject: Re: Iodoral and glucose vitamin C can raise blood sugar: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1001-Vitamin+C+VITAMIN+C+ASCORBIC+ACID.aspx?activeIngredientId=1001 & activeIngredientName=Vitamin+C+%28VITAMIN+C+%28ASCORBIC+ACID%29%29 & source=2 > > Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Guest guest
Marge,Pete and I both experienced an increase of 10-20 points in BG when starting iodine some time back, because of this we stopped using it. Then with Fukushima (March) became interested again and started researching iodine and found this forum. BG again in both of us is up by 20 + points and we are up to 62.5 mg of Iodoral with all of the campanion nurients. My guess is that many people don't check BG so they wouldn't know if it's gone up, we did think that maybe it's related to detoxing and BG is not as elevated on some days. BG used to be very consistant before iodine. Dr. Bernstein has said that if you're hypothyroid the A1c will be higher than BG numbers. My A1c has not matched my numbers and I test some days 8+ times looking for highs that aren't there, so why the higher A1c? Interestly my A1c has not changed much even though my numbers are much higher since iodine, again it doesn't corrolate. For now I'm not concerning myself too much with the increase in BG readings, instead focusing on detoxing bromine and getting the iodine my body needs, then maybe the BG readings will be better. Vitamin C didn't seem to effect BG. With everyone having different experiences the forum has been priceless, without it working through the detox issues would have been really difficult. Thanks to everyone that posts!LilFrom: <ldanaila@...>iodine Sent: Tuesday, August 23, 2011 7:07 AMSubject: Re: Iodoral and glucose vitamin C can raise blood sugar: http://www.webmd.com/vitamins-supplements/ingredientmono-1001-Vitamin+C+VITAMIN+\ C+ASCORBIC+ACID.aspx?activeIngredientId=1001 & activeIngredientName=Vitamin+C+%28V\ ITAMIN+C+%28ASCORBIC+ACID%29%29 & source=2 > > Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Guest guest
Hi Linn, My hematocrit is 39.8 range 35-45. RBC is 4.32 range 3.8-5.1. Supplements I take 62.5 Iodoral, 400 selenium, 4,000 C, 400 magnesium, 400E, 2,500 B12, fish oil. Using TLC shakes right now, then will use cofactors. Probiotics, Bio-Kult but now just making kefir and kimchi. A tsp of Celtic salt/water plus on food. Stopped the pill in April after 33 years. I take 1,500 metformin and use Levemir basal dosing 5 units am, 6 units PM. Bolus regular 2-3 units at lunch and dinner. BG in am used to be 75-80 now 90-100+. Seems the BG drifts down some as I adjust to the higher dose of Iodoral, this over weeks. Before iodine had only used 6.5 units basal total and 2-4 units regular. So higher BG even with more insulin. HC, is that for stomach digestion? No, I don't seem to have any issues w/digestion. Since iodine protocol, chronic constipation is gone! Always been a good sleeper, no problem with energy levels. Should I look more at adrenals? Thanks for your imput. Lil > > > > > > Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Anyone have any experience with this? Guest guest
If it were me, I would lower the selenium to 200 and also try to have your selenium level checked periodically. How long have you been taking selenium? Were you taking this amount of selenium when you took iodine the first time? Make sure the Vit E is NOT in an oil form, many types are in soybean oil which should be totally eliminated. Fish oil can be tricky, particularly for diabetics, if it were me, I would make sure it was cod liver oil from a good source, (see westonaprice.org for recommendations). Some forms of fish oil can be toxic. Magnesium should be a higher dose (unless you have kidney issues). Diabetics are notoriously low in magnesium. Definitely add in ATP Cofactors. More info on additional supplements to help here: http://www.westonaprice.org/diabetes/treating-diabetes You may need to go to higher levels of iodine, Flechas was using 100 mgs for treating diabetics. http://www.optimox.com/pics/Iodine/IOD-10/IOD_10.htm for more info. Was the start of iodine the first time, close to when you quit the pill? That might explain part of the issue. If it were me, I would get my hormone levels checked, by saliva and see where you stand with those. That could definitely have an effect on the BG. I'm not real fond of Metformin, I'm assuming you have been taking it for a while, maybe prior to starting insulin? Metformin can cause liver and kidney issues. It interferes with B12 and folic acid intake, B12 levels should be monitored while taking this drug. It can also elevate homocysteine levels. Levemir is a long acting insulin, meaning it covers your basal and some food intake, usually for 8-10 hours. I'm assuming you are just adding in a small amount of immediate acting insulin at the lunch and dinner times to help keep BG's in line. Have you considered using a basal insulin that lasts 24 hours. Those usually work well, particularly if you inject at dinner time or bedtime to keep fasting BG's level. If you're injecting long acting insulin at bedtime, it has hit it's peak about 6 hours later. Basal insulin won't start to lose it's effectiveness until about 20 hours. Also assuming you are on a low carb diet and excluding any bad oils. Coconut oil would be the only thing I would use at this point. Definitely eliminate any margarine (use real butter, preferably grass fed) and any mayonaise that you don't make yourself. Whole real foods are the best choices and juicing would surely help to heal the body, particularly green leafy veggies, beets, celery, cucumber, etc. Enzymes would be of great help also. VitalzymX or something similar. HC is cortisol, definitely would not add that in with your info at this point, it will only raise your BG further. If you can get sex hormones tested, cortisol levels could be tested at the same time. Linn > > > > > > > > Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Guest guest
My mistake, the selenium is 200, I've been taking it since I started Iodoral again in March. The first time I had no knowledge of campanion nutrients. The E is from Costco dl-Alpha Tocopheryl, I googled it but still have to look further, it is a soft gel. Fish oil is Carlson's or I use Krill oil, without it my trigs are in the 80's, with 40-50. I'm still experimenting with Magnesium citrate powder, one scoop is 630mg too much and I get diarrhea (something new to me after being constipated for decades) so I have to vary the dose. Did have bad foot/calf cramping in the early am before waking and this is now gone. The plan is to get up to 100mg or more of Iodoral, I've had (several times) numb and swollen lip, trembling feel of upper lip which I now believe is related to salivary gland swelling effecting facial nerves. Salivary glands in front of ears too. Scary when it first happened. Salivary gland swelling was listed as a side effect of taking emergency iodine. Salt loading lessened the pressure and swelling very effectively. I wait till these sensations go away completely before upping to the next dose and use extra salt, this has been working well. I'm not keen on Metformin either, the combination of insulin and metformin together have been the much more effective in lowering numbers. Levemir is similiar to Lantas, Bernstein believes 2 or even 3 shots of basal are better at controling BG, to prevent lows. Regular insulin (Humulin) for meals. I'm low carb, gluten free, no PUFA's and use coconut oil. I need to find a doctor that will work w/me. Would I look for a Naturopathic doctor for some of the tests you mentioned? NYS prevents consumers from using mail order testing. Linn, I really appreciate your time and will read up on the links listed. Guest guest
You might try backing the selenium down to 100 and see if it makes a difference in the BG's. Or even stop it for a while to check and see if the BG's reduce. You could take Astragalus instead of selenium, many health benefits. More info here: http://www.e-healtharticles.com/Detailed/2313.html Double check the Vit E, glycerin is okay, but not soybean oil. Also make sure the form is natural Vit E, not synthetic, you want the form d-alpha-tocopherol, the dl form. More info here: http://www.doctoryourself.com/vitamin_e.html http://www.doctoryourself.com/shute_protocol.html http://www.doctoryourself.com/evitamin.htm http://www.doctoryourself.com/estory.htm Upon switching to this form, keep on eye on the BG's, insulin requirements can drop suddenly. Spread the magnesium out throughout the day, 630 would probably be too much at one time, but maybe not for the entire day, try 1/4 of the dose at breakfast, lunch, dinner and then bedtime. Liver support to help with the detoxing issues, TLC, Metagenics Ultra PH, Livatone Plus or Dr. Schulze's Liver Tonic would be my favorites. (Although Steph isn't thrilled with Metagenics since their buyout.) A basal insulin would work better at controlling lows than a long acting insulin, I'd have to disagree with Bernstein there, just from personal experience with my daughter. It stays level longer. The trick is finding the correct basal rate. But you'd have to increase the immediate acting insulin to cover meals. However you're dosing, just keep an eye on the BG's though as you may start to see the iodine kicking in and lowering those. I know I have to keep a watchful eye for lows when upping iodine for my daughter. Look for an ND (Naturopathic doctor), Chiropractor or DO (Oesteopathic doctor) for help with testing. Steph (list owner) will be opening her practice soon, she is an ND. Good luck! Linn > > > > > > > > > > > > Since I started Iodoral, my glucose measures about 10 points higher than normal. Could it be a detox symptom and should I salt load? I'm taking all the companion nutrients and upped my C to 4000 IUs already. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Marge > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
I am pretty sure that this form of Vit E is soy free. My doctor's office doesn't stock items with soy. E-200 hy- 120 caps $28.00 Supplies 200 mg of d-Gamma tocopherol (y-tocopherol) with other mixed tocopherol isomers. Y-tocopherol, and its primary metabolite y-CEHC, have been shown to lower prostglandin E2 (PGE2) via the inhibition of COX-2. A study illustrated y-tocopherol's effects, showing a significant lowering of PGE2, along with a reduction of lipid peroxidation and LDH activity at the site of inflammation. •Model: 00752 •40 Units in Stock •Manufactured by: Biotics Research Buist, ND HC > > > > > > > > > > > > A high hematocrit and high RBC can provide falsely elevated HbA1c results. > > > > > > > > > > > > Were the 10-20 points in BG fasting test results? What other supplements do you take? Do you supplement HC or another form of adrenal support? > > > > > > > > > > > > Linn > > > > > >
