Guest guest
Hi All - Here are the results of my 7/27/11 blood tests. I grouped all of the abnormal ones at the top. This is very unusual for me. I usually only have low iron and high c-reactive protein. Doctor1 had me on 45mg iron/day and Dr. Flechas told me to greatly increase it to 200mg per day. Now I have this bizarre iron situation of low saturation and super-high ferritin. Doctor1 also wants me to quit Iodoral for two weeks. Flechas has me on 100mg per day. So I stopped taking all iron, and reduced Iodoral by half. Also, I went and gave blood on Friday in an effort to reduce the ferritin. My worst symptoms right now are horrendous weakness (which can be high iron or low iron) and burning/tingling sensations in arms & legs. Note that I am NOT TIRED, just weak. No stamina at all. Any input will be greatly appreciated because I can't go on feeling like this! Guest guest
There is a lot going on in your lab results! I'm only going to offer info on a couple of things ... your situation is complex and unfortunately not completely on topic for this forum. The low iron / high ferritin could be Anemia of Chronic Disease. Information about that can be found at : http://www.irondisorders.org/anemia-of-chronic-disease. If this is the case supplementing iron is the worst thing you can do. The elevated RDW is also indicative of anemia ... but is not necessarily fixed by iron supplementation as you have just experienced. Other possibilities are a need for B12 (as methylcobalamin or hydroxocobalamin) and folate (as 5-MTHF). The MCV result on your lab results will help determine this. One article that explains a bit about RDW is: http://www.brighthub.com/science/medical/articles/53767.aspx. Also here is a link to Dr. Kaslow's information about RBC, RDW and other blood cell counts: http://www.drkaslow.com/html/blood_cell_counts.html Even though the serum results for B12 & folate may look okay it is possible that your body is not utilizing them. A couple of reasons that can happen is a faulty methylation pathway or lack of intrinsic factor in the gut. The burning and tingling in extremities may be a need for Vitamin B6 in large doses (of course combined with a B complex) or possibly indicative of diabetes, as the elevated HGBA1C might be indicating as well. (These are not the only things that could cause burning and tingling, but are a couple to consider given the lab results.) Vitamin D3 is very low. The progressive/holistic doctors that I read all indicate desirable levels in the 70's to 90's. (and that would be a Labcorp result ... Quest results need higher results to equal a LabCorp result). More information about Vitamin D can be found at the Vitamin D council: http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/. Vitamin D3 can generally be taken quite safely at very large dosages - 10,000 IU/day is not uncommon for those with chronic illness and low lab results. Always take at least 100 mcg of K2 with the D3. C Reactive Protein result is super high and indicative of very high inflammation in the body. Here is a link to Dr. Kaslow's information about this: http://www.drkaslow.com/html/c-reactive_protein.html There is more going on for you than just these items. So many factors ... diet, other lab results, known illness. > > Hi All - Here are the results of my 7/27/11 blood tests. I grouped all of the abnormal ones at the top. This is very unusual for me. Guest guest
Look - your labs look to me like you've got massive Bvites problems, esp B12, thiamine, folic acid. http://www.bettermedicine.com/article/beriberi/symptoms http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/vitaminB12/ http://lpi.oregonstate.edu/infocenter/vitamins/fa/ Are you taking any BComplex? B12 (methylcobalamin) ? My lab says drain bamage occurs in the 400s. I don't settle for anything less than 1100, and prefer over 2000. Take methylcobalamin SUBLINGUAL, and a good B100 (Solaray) several times a day, I would. I'm not a doc, etc., yada, yada. I was disabled by Bvitamin deficiencies 20 years ago. Get moving. Do not keep screwing around. Your B12 level is dangerous, and NOT ACCEPTABLE. B6, B12 & folic acid can mess up your iron numbers - pernicious anemia. Please. You do not want to cause permanent damage. And medical " professionals " know jack shit about nutrition. Generally. Wishing you vibrant good health . . . ASAP. Re: Latest blood tests Posted by: " pythonesk " pythonesk@... pythonesk Mon Aug 15, 2011 10:50 am (PDT) Thanks Baxrox - I tried to get Doctor1 interested in the chronic disease idea, but he didn't bite. I was reading on that iron disorders website this morning and saw " neurodegenerative problems " mentioned a couple of times with high iron. Can the hot tingling sensations in my extremities be classed as neurodegenerative? L > > > > Hi All - Here are the results of my 7/27/11 blood tests. I grouped all of the abnormal ones at the top.
