Guest guest
I was told just plain table salt in M & P worked to make it harder/last longer and granulated sugar would make it later better. Don't remember how much it was recommended to add, but I just sprinkled a bit of salt in hot soap, probably about a teaspoon for a couple of pounds. worked very nicely. When I added the sugar, guess it didn't melt well enough so it sunk to bottom of mold. I had these strange cakes of soap with soap at surface. It did make for a nice later though, but wouldn't want to give them to anyone else that way. I'll try it again with hotter soap.
Guest guest
-- I used to use sugar for lathering, but then got concerned about shelf life. I now use borax, 1oz in the lye solution per 5lb batch. It works great, especially here where most people have hard water. My soaps lather wonderfully. Guest guest
Dear Kim, A couple of suggestions that have helped tremendously our Maggie (5 years old, HFA) sleep. First, is Chase on any kind of specialized diet? When we put Maggie on the gluten-free, casein-free diet, it helped some. However, when we removed yeast from her diet it helped INCREDIBLY! Basically, no yeast breads or yeast ingredients, and limit sugar severely. Since artificial sweeteners are generally worse than a little sugar, we do let her have some sugar occasionally, but we also have her on Nystatin (which helps eliminate the yeast). Many autistic kids have excess yeast, which can interfere with sleep and aggravate other problems related to autism. Also, have you tried melatonin? We have learned that autistic kids frequently do not produce enough melatonin -- which is a natural element in the body that is needed for sleep. Melatonin naturally elevates in the evenings to facilitate sleep -- but these kids don't have enough, so they don't sleep well. We have started giving Maggie 1.5 mgs of melatonin 1/2 an hour before bedtime, and it helps so much. We just split a 3 mg capsule and put 1/2 the powder in water lightly flavored with apple juice. The taste is ok, and she doesn't notice. (Watch the additional ingredients, so you con't end up with anything that might aggravate the problem additionally. We use a brand that, besides melatonin, only contains rice flour.) Different people use different amounts -- you kind of have to start with a small amount and work your way up to see what is needed. There are various articles on both the melatonin and yeast issues. If you like, you can email me and I'll see if I can locate the links to assist you. Maggie still has the occasional wakeful night -- once or twice per week she wakes up sometime between 2am and 5am and just doesn't go back to sleep. Or she may not fall asleep well on occasiona. But overall, she is SO much better than before we dealt with the yeast and added the melatonin. I was just a neurotic mess from lack of sleep, so I really sympathize with you! Blessings, K > It's been another long night here. Chase wakes every 2 hours like > clockwork and is up screaming/hurting himself for anywhere from 10 > minutes (if I'm lucky) to 45 minutes or more... Guest guest
Kim, Maybe the Texas Children's Hospital in downtown Houston could help you. They charge patients on a sliding scale and I believe they also will work with people that have no insurance. They are a great hospital with all kinds of specialists. It sounds like the neurologist is not helping much except with the symptoms, especially the fact that it took him 3 days to return your call. Do you have a Mental Health and Mental Retardation Association near where you live? We have that here in Houston and they have respite care places and specialists working with them also. Please take care of yourself and I pray you get the help you need. Debbie > Hello Friends, > It's been another long night here. Guest guest
Hopefully someone can answer as far as something else to use. I know it's late in the day on a Sunday, chemical labs or companies that have a chemical lab in them might have Distilled. I work at a power plant and we make it at rates of hundreds of gallons per hour. They are " open " 24 hours a day so to speak, finding someone that would be able to get you some ??? Just some ideas. -- Later, Mike Briggs Photo Gallery: http://www.pbase.com/photogrif/ " Fish Gotta Swim, I Gotta Dive "

Guest guest
Thank you for the reply's. I was also informed that it would be okay to boil the spring water for 10 minutes and use that. I sure hope they get our water back in order tomorrow. The bipap water is just one of the many problems we get with no usable water. I have just spent who knows how much money on bottled water because I refuse to use this water even if boiled. I just can't take the chance with Ian's blood counts being low. Guest guest
Sandy, Is it possible that what you describe may be contact dermatitis from a product you are using on your skin or something you are coming in contact with via clothes or linens? Are you in contact with anything different that you are using to rid yourself of mite, but which may be causing skin irritation. Are you rinsing clothes and linens thoroughly after using new detergents. Just an idea. Could the repeated cedarcide be causing mildew to grow on your light fixture? Is is very moist in your house? Has the dermatologist looked at your white bumps? They could also be a staph infection. But i doubt it and hope not. However, if you think it could possibly e an infestion please go to the MD ASAP. I've gotten small white bumps from contact dermatitis before that's why I mention it. This can be a painful allergic reaction. I always have to wash every article of clothes I buy before wearing it and it can;t use perfumed and strong detergents. z3 > > My skin feeks like it is on fire and it is getting worse. The shower surround and the curtin rod have clear globs on them. I have used every cleaning product that I have and they will not come off, they just roll down the wall. Now my arm is on fire, there is a large red spot on the inside of the elbow that has heat in it, and it is causing me to have a lot of pain. Guest guest
Perhaps soak in the tub with just a little vinegar in the water or with a very mild soap and then rinse well. Or a baking soda paste rub and then rinse well. Then a gentle moisturizing lotion. z3 > > > > My skin feeks like it is on fire and it is getting worse. Guest guest
When my skin was burning from over processing it Aquaphor really soothed it... Sometimes the perfumes in moisturizing lotions can be an irritant too. I wouldn't use anything drying at this point. Sometimes we have to back off for a while with all the scrubbing, drying and treating of skin. Some of the products I purchased for big money really hurt my sensitive skin. L. Guest guest
Sandy, If you are doing the bathes, I told you it would get worst before it gets better as all the virus down in your skin already ejected will start rising to the top. It took me 10 painful days to make it to semi-painful days. The final 2 weeks have been a peice of cake. Next Saturday will mark the end of 4 weeks of bathes for me. I only fear I'll have nothing to show the Dr. upon my visit. Guest guest
I have been doing HC cream 4x a day for 6 months and I started to feel pretty good and my temps were almost upto normal. I've been doing about 40 mg/day. Suddenly, several days ago my blood pressure has shot up. I've eliminated every other possiblity pretty much, don't think I missed anything so it must be time to go off cortisol. I will be doing a saliva test within several daysto see what I'm at with the cortisol. Question:how do I go off cortisol if my blood pressure is high (150/94)? I know it's important to wean off of it but what about the BP? So far, I've been trying to keep it down with lisinopril, my bp medication. What do I do to get off cortisol and still keep my BP fromskyrocketing.? thanks for any help,Ariel
Guest guest
Ariel,Maybe buying a reliable BP for home use would give you a different picture. Some people have BP that goes up temporarily with stress of one kind or another and lots do with white coat syndrome. Maybe that is factor here. More readings may give you a different picture. My BP is all over the place from 80/60 to 150/90 so I never know what it will be. For me, pain is more of a factor than anything else.
