I went to the link provided, here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem & item=200620015715 & ssPageName=ADME:\ X:RTQ:US:1123 - which is owned by ebayer nassauconnection who has a 99.9% positive feedback. My curiosity got the best of me, since there was no indication of who or where this product was manufactured. So, I wrote the following request to nassauconnection: Dear nassauconnection, Can you please tell me; 1. Who is the manufacturer of this product, and 2. Where (country) was the product produced? Thank you. He responded yesterday with the following: Hi thank you for your interest. I make this lugol`s solution myself. It consist of 7% elemental iodine, 14% potassium iodide and R/O water. Thanks - nassauconnection The price for 1 ounce of 7% solution at $8.35, plus $4.49 shipping is no doubt excellent.....the point of this post is, how does one know what they're buying from this ebay seller? What kind of quality control, manufacturing standards, etc. is he adhering to? The product may be the best out there and I'm not saying that nassauconnection is not producing exactly what he says he is. I write this post only to alert you all, since the quality of the iodine you purchase and use is so critical to help you resolve the various health issues you are treating. You would rather trust a big, money-grubbing company with lots of employees, any one of whom could screw something up, than one motivated individual? A big company does not guarantee ethical behavior or knowledge or skill or quality control...Lugol's solution is a fairly simple & straight-forward recipe. Many list members make up their own. There is no fancy equipment required, & no fancy educational background. If you were shopping for a nuclear reactor, your reservations would make sense to me.However, since this is important to you, go ahead & pay more for professional packaging from a larger company. You have to do what makes you feel safe. But please bear in mind that we are all caught up in a web of trust. Unless you grow all your own food yourself, you buy food that passes through many hands, with many possibilities for contamination & unethical behavior. She expressed her feelings about the relative safety of buying from a faceless corporation (with good PR) or an individual. It's something I think about frequently these days. I have lost my faith & trust in the major food corps & the ability of govt to regulate the safety of our food/supplements. I have bought & sold on eBay for over 12 years. I feel very comfortable with most sellers. You can't maintain 5 star seller status if you get more than a very few complaints. Your comment about "buyer beware" definitely seemed to suggest a lack of trust. We have a history on the list of list members recommending Ebay purveyors of Lugol's, & others fretting that the product could not be trusted because it was made by an individual, rather than a corporation. At one point, a new list member was quite distressed to have bought a bottle of Lugol's with a simple, black & white, computer-printed label, as though that invalidated the product.What we do here is very much about trying to figure out whom to trust. They are even happy with the product though no one has yet to verify the GRADE of the product. There is a long list of grades available to use and lower grades (more contaminants) cost less money and can be passed on at less cost. Especially without having the additional expenses involved with running a licensed business subject to FDA and in Lugol's case even DEA oversight. I have no problems with individuals selling products or simplicity of labeling but I do have a concern for the GRADE of chemicals being used in that product - especially if the intent is to better one's health and avoid toxins. For example, the eBay seller(s) to date has not answered anyone about the grade of product they are using. J. Crow's advertises that they use USP grade or higher. Can we trust J. Crows more than an anonymous seller on eBay??? I don't know. At least J. Crow's can be held to a certain amount of guidelines and oversight. They can be held to 'truth in advertising'. The owner has their name out there and a reputation and company at stake. A person can have their product tested for purity and if it is not as pure as they say it is then they can be sued and suffer those consequences. It continues to baffle me that many on this list speak of detoxification, avoiding toxic chemicals, eating organic, etc... yet have no qualms about ingesting a chemical product that is not USP grade or higher. Kelp routinely gets shot down as containing arsenic, mercury and other toxic elements yet as a whole food source it likely balances out in the wash. I cannot say this FOR SURE but I have a lot more confidence in kelp as a food source than I do unknown grades of chemicals sold by anonymous people. I read somewhere in Dr. Brownstein's information that he has every supplement tested before supplying or recommending it to patients. I do not recall the exact reasons he stated but I imagine it has something to do with not adding to the health problems that are being addressed by ingesting products with poor quality and lesser grade of ingredients. I wish that the eBay sellers were not backed by emphatic endorsements from this list. I think there would be less polarization about the subject if it were all just supplied as information, i.e : " Lugol's is sold both by companies and individuals. Some of the companies advertise USP grade or higher. The grade of the product from individuals is unknown.
