lugols, dmso, and powdered sulfur question

I am currently applying Lugol's after DMSO followed by either castor oil or aloe plant and a bandage to skin mets. I have gone to every few days because my skin has gotten really irritated.I found a bag of sulfur powder in my gardening supplies and remembered reading somewhere that MSM is a version of sulfur or very similar to it and that MSM is just a little chemically different than liquid DMSO. Sulfur is good for skin health.I was wondering if it would be okay to mix some of the powdered sulfur with my Lugol's and apply it after applying the DMSO to my skin mets. Would it potentially help or hurt me to do that?Joy from Tallahassee

DMSO can carry contaminants into the skin, too, & gardening products are not necessarily pure enough to go in your bloodstream. I wouldn't. If you are going to use DMSO, you want the area to be VERY clean, & the products you are using to be pharmaceutical grade.AnneOn Aug 10, 2011, at 2:24 PM, rainbowjoye wrote:

People who use Lugol's on the skin are mixing the Lugol's into the oil

before placing it on the skin. I don't know about using DMSO, but the

point of the oil is to mitigate the irritation the iodine can cause

topically. If you put the iodine on and then the oil, that mitigation

isn't as effective. Our member has done a lot of experimentation

with topical application.

Don't use garden sulphur on your own skin, please. It's just not

safe. You can buy MSM from pet supply stores really inexpensively. If you

get the stuff made for horses it's quite safe for human consumption:

I have a book about MSM. DMSO is dimethyl sulfoxide. It says that DMSO is used

for a number of health problems but some people won't use it because it smells

bad. MSM is methyl-sulfonyl-methane and gives similar benefits without the smell

- so they are both forms of sulfur.

Another form of sulfur used on your skin, or as a bath soak, or internally, is

Epsom Salts which is magnesium sulfate. It is named after the first place they

found it in Epsom, England. Epsom salts is also used in the garden as a plant

fertilizer for tomatoes, grass etc. as well as been a common bath and foot soak.
