Guest guest
I go to the doc's as little as possible so never told them about the iodine and have never had a problem with taking it. My doc would freak out and wouldn't know what to do. I think for some docs it means to them they have no control over the patient; which of course speaks of their own control issues. Others panic because they have been taught that iodine will kill you. Amazing. Any concerns about doing this or is it a listen to and know your own body. Thanks! Deidre

Guest guest
Deidre - the majority of the people here are going it alone. There are precious few doctors that really have a clue. Guest guest
I always want to laugh at the drug commercials that say, "Ask your doctor about..." because I have always met resistance when I tried to ask a doctor for anything. When a guy likes to feel in control, he doesn't like you to ask for anything. And when it comes to alternative stuff, the guy is always clueless. (Maybe they are more amenable to being asked for a prescription drug. I'm not too likely to ask for one of those.)A lot of prescription drugs are seriously toxic, & you can run into trouble really fast if you use them incorrectly (or even if you use them correctly sometimes!)By contrast, most supplements & natural products are pretty safe, even if you take higher than normal doses. (You should always read around & check for potential hazards, although you need to take some of the mainstream cautions with a big grain of salt, because they say iodine is toxic, & the amounts of vitamin D3 they recommend are ridiculously low.)Because everybody is different, we all have different responses to ANYTHING we take. We have been systematically taught to value test scores & doctors' recommendations over our own observations of our bodies. It is hard to take responsibility for your own care. Many of us were told for years that we were perfectly healthy ( & maybe hypochondriacs) when we knew we were sick. Once you do anything that makes you start to feel better, it gets easier.AnneOn Aug 5, 2011, at 8:57 AM, Higgins wrote: I think very few do iodine with doctor supervision - my doc called it "crazy stuff", but then he has been prescribing levoxyl for years for me and I jut kept getting sicker so I have to quetion who the crazy one is!On Aug 5, 2011, at 7:21 AM, harringd932 wrote: How many of you do not have MD guidance while taking Iodine? Guest guest
I think it is the influence of drug companies. Iodine used to be known as the universal medicine. think of what impact iodine would have on drug companies if docs knew how to use it. Guest guest
This is covered in part in the New Member doc in the section about Hashimoto's. Here is an article about the so-called Wolfe-Chaikoff effect (WCE), a scientific fraud that forms the basis of the lies taught to medical and nursing students as well as other health providers in the Western tradition. This is an article debunking the WCE: http://www.optimox.com/pics/Iodine/IOD-04/IOD_04.html The WCE is used to scare people into being afraid of iodine and is responsible for the removal of iodine from the food supply, except for the tiny amount in iodized salt. As you may know, bread used to be made with iodine as the dough conditioner, but continued lies about iodine resulted in the removal of iodine and the replacement of it with bromides (brominated flour) instead. So not only did they take iodine out of the bread, they replaced it with an iodine-mimicker that causes disease. -- >What is it about iodine that mainstream doctors think it is bad for >you? Guest guest
They are taught that it is for the thyroid to prevent goiter. The RDA is 150 mcg and goiter issues are rare because we get iodine from salt. Buist, ND HC Re: Going on Iodine without physician supervision Absolutely NOTHING.... Guest guest
Iodine has helped me with so many of my health problems. I cannot understand why my FNP and an OBGYN I know socially, are horrified that I take 48 mg a day. Iodoral has helped my hypo, acne rosacea, yeast problems, energy level, and others I cannot remember. Could still have brain fog J Carol
Guest guest
Maybe they have brain fog too so they don't see the changes. But seriously some information they are taught is very hard to change. Buist, ND HC Re: Going on Iodine without physician supervision Iodine has helped me with so many of my health problems.
