Guest guest
Hello all, Wondered if anyone had any comments or advice for me. The thing is, after almost a year on T4 (Thyrax), upped from 75-100-125 (125 for the last few months) I see little, if any, improvement (my nails grew a bit!). And, as you know, I've had a terrible time to get my doc to do any tests other than the TSH, FT4 and FT3. He refuses to do a throat scan, or test for deficiencies such as B12, magnesium, zinc, copper etc, or test for Celiac or gluten deficiency. I've now ordered some B12 caps, and also take a calcium/Vit D supplement as (years ago) I was found to be Vit D3 deficient. As my latest results (which I got 2 weeks ago) are `in range', even a bit hyper, doc declares that I am properly balanced, T4 is converting properly and all my on-going symptoms must be `something else'. Here are my latest results: Free T4 2.0 (0.8 to 1.8 mcg/dl) Free T3 5.2 (2.10 to 4.40 pg/d) TSH 0.17 ( 0.3 to 3 mIU/m (old range 0.5 to 5 mIU/ml) Ferritin: 42 Haemoglobin: 9.1 Thrombosis: 200 Iron Sat 15% As I also have HH, the ferritin and Iron Sat are kept low (this inhibiting the T4, T3 conversion, I thought). (Sorry, I know this is a bit long-winded)... Anyway...I have...ahem...begun with T3 (Tiromel) thusly (25 mcg tabs, which I cut into 4): I have lowered my T4 from 125 to 100 and started Mon 29th Aug 2011 with 6.25 mcg (quarter tab) Upped to: Mon 5th Sept 2011 12.5 mcg (half tab) I notice I have slightly more energy (although still chronically fatigued, if that makes sense), less brainfog, carpel tunnel improved, less dizzy and disorientated, heart palps less. No weight change. Many symptoms, though, remain, such as itchy skin, itchy scalp, tight throat, difficulty swallowing, weight gain and so on. So my question is, if anyone has any experience with this (as I'm sure many do ), should I up my dose further, and when? Now almost 2 weeks on the 12.5 mcg per day...I would soooooo much like to feel better. Thanks so much for any words of wisdom.
