Guest guest
Hi,I just saw the advice to take 200mg of selenium each day. I know this does assist with conversion of T4 to T3, but I personally would much rather manage my T4/T3 ratio with direct supplementation wherever possible, for the reason that selenium has been found to contribute to over double the risk of diabetes type 2. Below are some links to articles about this. For me, I'd much rather manage my T4 and T3 with direct thyroid medication, when possible, then to come down with a 2nd chronic disease that could end up with me giving myself insulin injections every day! It's already enough of a pain in the neck to try and manage my thyroid problem! I don't want to have to manage diabetes, on top of it. I realize this is counter to what most thyroid boards are advising, but the potential side effects of selenium are just too great, for me, if I can manage to get my T3 some other way. I would really like to see all of the thyroid boards reconsider the advice to take 200mg of selenium. 55mg is considered the safe amount, to avoid the extra risk of diabetes type 2. http://www.news.cornell.edu/Chronicle/04/6.17.04/selenium_diabetes.htmlhttp://care.diabetesjournals.org/cgi/content/abstract/30/4/829http://diabetes.webmd.com/news/20070709/selenium-supplements-diabetes-risk Cherwyn Cherwyn AmbuterArtistic DirectorZephyr Vocal Ensemblewww.zephyrve.orgPiano lessons, piano & harp music for eventswww.theambuterduo.com cherwyn@...(973) 862-0668
