Hello Anne,

I am not clear on what you are asking. Are you saying you convinced her to up your dose of Natural Thyroid Hormone ( Armours, Erfa, Naturethroid, for example) ? Have you read Dr. Brownsteins book on Iodine? If you haven't, we suggest you do. You will read that iodine is needed by every part of the body, not just the thyroid. And if you have had cancer of the thyroid, then you especially need iodine. Sounds to me like you will have to educate your doctor, which is not uncommon. Also, if you have recently started iodine, your TSH will likely be high, which is of no clinical significance. The best tests for indicating thyroid function , whether or not you have a thyroid, or are taking NTH, are FreeT3 and FreeT4. The TSH is of no value at all for thyroid function. Best, Kathleen

doctor's visit coming up

I have a doctor's visit coming up and have to do labwork beforehand. I am worried that my TSH will be too low of course now that I convinced her last year to up my dose. She says she does clinical analysis rather than only labwork, but she is not likely going to accept a reading of .0.. something since she believes in the importance of the TSH. I don't know whether I should tell her I am now taking iodine, or stop taking it before the lab tests. I don't have a thyroid due to thyroid cancer and would love to be able to make a point about the fact that I need iodine and that it will not cause my thyroid to grow back etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ThanksAnne
