Iodoral increase TSH?

Just rec'd my lab results and am concerned. Since I started taking the Iodoral,

my TSH has dramatically increased. It was consistently in the 3 - 3.5 range for

a few years, but with this latest test it had jumped to 17.5. Yikes! The only

new supplement is the Iodoral.

Does Iodine intake normally increase TSH? I'm taking Iodoral 5 mg iodine and 7.5

iodide - 1 tablet a day.

In case it's relevant, T3 Free is 2.8, T4 is 7.0 and T4 Free is 0.9.

Has this happened to anyone else? Did you fix by taking more Iodoral or did you

stop taking it and switch to another source of Iodine?

Thanks - Brigitte

Brigitte,

Please read the New Members doc. that was sent to you when you joined the group. If you didn’t save it, please go to FILES then New Member doc., then Commonly Asked Questions and Answers. You will see there that it is normal for ones TSH to go up for the first few months of taking Iodine and is of no clinical significance. When this happens, most people find that their Frees are within normal limits. And most importantly, it's how one feels. And just to note, the TSH test does not accurately reflect thyroid function anyway. Free T3 and Free T4 are the best indicators of thyroid function, alone with how one is feeling. Again, please read the Commonly Asked Questions and Answers. Thank you. Kathleen
