So the NHS are charging now then? :0(

I had vitD tested by the NHS but it was a few years ago now. The GP didn't do it

I had it done by the endo clinic, perhaps it's condsidered a " specialist test " ?

It didn't do me much good though as the comment with it just said that the

result was low " but we often see this in auto immune illness " as if there was

nothing that could be done about it, and nobody told me that if vitD is low your

thyroid meds won't work. It was a few more years before I found out about that.

My doc told me this morning that there was no box she could tick and that the

NHS do not and cannot test D3... ever...

Guess that's the last time I'll be seeing that doc then...

I have mine done!

But then, I am rather scary when I get into that surgery - they'll do anything

to get me out of there!! ;)

My GP won't consider NDT or T3 but at least he has done Vit D test twice in last

8 months and both free. If he could possibly charge for it he would so it must

definitely be free !

Hi

Just when I was to request a Vit D test! I shall not be paying for one that's

for certain! I did ask for a Vit D test when I saw the endo earlier this year

but the results letter came back with the comment that my Vit D had been tested

in 2000 and was normal then. It beggars belief doesn't it?

I too had vit d test done last year at surgery and no charge, but I was

prescribed medication that had a worsened effect on me, so perhaps an excuse to

make me worse, as the medication had calcium carbonate in it, so like us all I

located a vit d2 that was fine with me.However my GP at the start of the summer

said that I could stop taking vit d2, so I do have to wonder about that test

result, and no more tests have been done since.

Thanks everyone for all the messages,

My doctor was just awful. I took my husband with me and he couldn't believe how

awful she was. Last year my mcv (cell size) had dropped to 80.7 from 83 the

year before.... (low iron?) but she said she wouldn't measure it this year as

it was 0.7 over range last year.

She didn't understand about bell curves and distribution graphs....

Wouldn't test anything except says I can have a spirometry test to measure lung

function but not till mid october....

I'm just going to get the tests all done privately and if anything is out I

shall write to the head of practice, in fact I shall put in a complaint......

We think there is just a personality clash and so I will not be giving the

paractice the benefit of my once a year visit again :)

I'm going to find a new doctor but may invite them to fill in a questionnaire

before I consider seeing them.....

Does anyone know where I can get my iron sats (an FBC) done for a reasonable

price? I can get ferritinm folate and B12, but I want serum iron levels......

xx

This is just an outright lie. I have had mine tested twice in the last year free

of charge.

You were lucky.    My endo requested a Vitamin D test, amongst others.   When the results came back the Vitamin D was not done.I phoned the relevant department to find out why (I notice endo didn't bother to find out why), and they told me that it was because the endo had not stated on the test form why he wanted it done.     They then asked me if I had a lot of pain, when I answered yes, they said they would do it.

Mind you when it comes to T3, even when doctor has written on it " taking T3 " and highlighted it, they still would not do it.There isn't a box to tick Vitamin D, but there isn't a box for lots of things.   The doctor just writes underneath the extra ones.   But it seems some labs need to know why before they will actually do it.

Hi

I have just heard from our surgery practice manager regarding the fact that I

will have to pay for a Vitamin D test.

The reason is that my calcium levels have been done ( and were not abnormal.

Therefore a Vitamin D test is not required and therefore not available on the

NHS.

I am sure somebody will have a comment to make on this!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Oh, and the hairloss is due to the fact that I am post menopausal! Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Hi Debbie,

Thanks for this. Is there anything I can find on the internet that I can show

the surgery to prove you can have normal calcium but low D3? I daresay the

calcium test are as useless as the thyroid ones eh? Perhaps ALL blood tests are

useless!

Thanks again,

Margaret

Even as you were typing that, you knew it wasn't right, didn't you!

This is complete rubbish. When I started, my calcium was within range, not

great, but within range, but my D was way below range. Here the NHS tests both

together.

Complain!
