Welcome - I am Buist, ND the owner of this group. I was dx'd with papillary thyroid cancer in 2000 and had the typical slash and radiate. But I did the radiation 3x and it failed each time. I finally healed through detoxification, iodine and nutrition / hormone balancing. I met someone from this group that healed w/o having surgery and using the iodine protocol. One of our moderators Kathleen has healed using Gerson which has iodine as part of its treatment. My full story can be found at www.naturalthyroidchoices.com and you can see what I did. Also use the new member document. One person I knew had a recurrence and her doctor was friends with Dr Abraham. He put her on 200 mgs of Iodoral a day plus the Vit C, ATP CoFactors and a few other things. Her cancer was leaving her lymph nodes but she got freaked out and decided to do the surgical removal of the lymph nodes before seeing if it was totally resolved. I would have loved to see that one resolve fully.

I am working on a book about thyroid cancer. Unfortunately it is slow going with my children home for the summer. I am in the process of organizing 4 years of research into folders by topic. It is taking a very long time.

New! Has anyone healed their thyroid cancer with iodine?

Hi all!I'm 41 & was recently diagnosed with a probable stage 1 papillary carcinoma in a .7cm nodule on my thyroid. Of course, typical treatment - slash & burn baby - isn't sitting well with me. I'm torn as I have 3 young children and don't want to jeopardize spread by waiting too long, but would much rather keep my thyroid. Can anyone share their experience with this? I was diagnosed July 5th and my head has been spinning ever since with the daunting amount of info out there!Blessings,

Hi everyone,I have lipomas (fatty lumps under the skin). Is this connected at all to iodine deficiency? Has anyone had them shrink or disappear while taking iodine? I think this is probably wishful thinking because I don't like them very much and it would be great if iodine did take them away. I have a couple of breast cysts that I am hopeful iodine will shrink or disappear complete though.FionaFrom: ladybugsandbees

Hi - I was diagnosed in Dec 09 with papillary cancer too and decided that I wanted to strengthen my body first before I agreed with them taking my thyroid out. In any case, I know that if I ever decide to have the op, I won't be having the RAI follow up. I have made dietary changes, follow the iodine protocol and also take a number of other supplements. Although it hasn't gone, it hasn't grown either, so I feel it is contained at the moment.

There are many who wish they hadn't had their thyroid out, but I'm not sure they were faced with cancer when they did have it out. It's a difficult situation to be living with day to day, that's for sure.

The good thing is that papillary cancer is slow growing and if you address the other issues - stress, diet, supplements etc., then you have a bit of time to think.

Hi ,

Thanks so much for your response. Wow - nothing has changed and it's been 1 1/2 yrs since your diagnosis? I want so much to have time to heal, but the fear seems stronger for me with little ones at home not to wait TOO long b/c it is cancer. We had "just" started the GAPS diet for healing before the cancer diagnosis so I haven't really had a chance to see anything change from diet. Quit the levo b/c I thought I was going to do surgery and then started researching more. Still off meds, so feeling kinda blah but don't want to start yet. It baffles me that they have no way to tell you more specifics about whether it's encapsulated or in your lymph nodes, etc. I've had nothing but an ultrasound to find the nodules and an FNA to biopsy. With these two things alone it's automatically "take it out" - so frustrating!

I admire your courage to heal first. I pray that I can find more than I have now, b/c I'm just flat out scared!

Blessings,

The word "cancer" is scary by itself, but the docs enhance that fear by rushing you along, & making it sound like minutes count. The fact is that cancer is a process, & one that often takes many years to develop. By the time it is diagnosed, you generally have some time to sort yourself out, & try to work through your panic. At the risk of making you more frightened, a lot of the people who accept all the slash & burn treatments still die -- & sometimes they suffer MORE than the people who were not so obedient. The treatments can be pretty awful. (Some people die cancer-free from the chemotherapy!) I imagine if you look around you, or talk to people, you will hear a lot of stories. I remember I was skimming through the obituaries one time, & came across one for a woman who had had cancer for several years before her death. Whoever wrote the obituary listed the horrendous number of chemotherapy rounds she went through -- valiantly, of course. (None of those obituaries ever says "miserably.") Everybody wants to live -- & especially mothers of young children -- but the quality of that life bears some consideration, & the long-term result of the path you choose. The docs act like they cure everybody. You know they don't. And there are serious downsides to slash & burn. "Recovered" cancer patients are prone to more cancers down the road, caused by their treatment, for example. There is the famous "chemo brain" -- patients often suffer severe mental impairment for years after chemotherapy...Nobody can tell you what to do. And nobody can really know which is the best route for you to go. In the end, you have to do what makes you feel safest. Some people really do feel safer letting doctors tell them what to do, even if the treatments are pretty awful. Some of us feel safer trying to clean up our diets, take supplements, improve our general health, & trust our bodies to heal. But the first thing you need to do is scrutinize the rhetoric. Anybody who tells you that you have to do what he says RIGHT NOW or DIE is full of crap.Anybody who tells you that removing the organ will "cure" your cancer is full of crap. 's cancer recurred after they destroyed her thyroid. Many men have died of prostate cancer after their prostates were removed. My ex-wife-in-law died of cancer; at one point, after grueling treatment, she was declared cancer-free -- & then the cancer roared back. If you haven't addressed the underlying cause of the cancer, it comes back (or you get a different one.) Our feeling here is that if you work on being healthy, your body can take often care of the cancer on its own. And if you decide to opt for surgery, it can hardly hurt you to have built up your strength first. The biggest challenge is not to let other people (including us) bully you. Everybody will advise you to do what they think is best, but you are the one who will bear the consequences. Don't help THEM feel safe; help yourself feel safe.AnneOn Jul 28, 2011, at 2:47 PM, wrote:

I strongly recommend that you start the iodine protocol regardless of what

else you do. It will strengthen you for whatever lies ahead.

- I can relate. My nodules have grown a lot over the past 18 months

and now a solid mass is evident on ultrasound (whatever that means). I'm on

100mg Iodoral + atpcf per day and I feel like the goiter is shrinking. The only

time it swells again is when I take NTH or even Cytomel so I'm off all meds. I

think you should try supplementing with iodine. It can only help and might give

you more energy. It gave me so much energy that I didn't sleep the first two

days. (Be sure to take before noon :D)

My 2 cents,

Laurel

Thank you so much for this Anne! I am in that crises of fear and then anger for

not wanting to follow what they say b/c I think it's crap. I'm ready to work on

my body and have already made a drastic change in our family's diet by going

grain/starch free but WOW the rest looks like so much to start implementing and

sort out. I realize I've put my body in this mess with my terrible eating

habits up until the last few years and want the chance to make amends with

myself and show my body that I love it and want to work with it to heal. I'm

afraid of it letting me down....no right answers here but I really appreciate

your thoughts - they mimic many of my own!

Thank you for your response Laurel! Do you have a doc who will ride this out

with you? I'm wondering what will happen when I tell my dr. I'm going to try

something else and want another ultrasound in a couple of months.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond ! I actually found

your story before I knew about the iodine group. I was impressed with how

healthy and vibrant you looked in your photo! I'm thankful you take the time to

help all of us searching for another way to heal our bodies. I'm overwhelmed

with the amount of information, but just going to start taking notes and try to

sort it all out. It's so amazing just how intricate all of this is. I'm still

searching for a Dr. that will help me with iodine/alternative therapy as I know

my current endo won't be.

Blessings,

> Welcome - I am Buist, ND the owner of this group. I was

dx'd with papillary thyroid cancer in 2000 and had the typical slash and

radiate. But I did the radiation 3x and it failed each time. I finally healed

through detoxification, iodine and nutrition / hormone balancing. I met someone

from this group that healed w/o having surgery and using the iodine protocol.

One of our moderators Kathleen has healed using Gerson which has iodine as part

of its treatment. My full story can be found at www.naturalthyroidchoices.com

and you can see what I did. Also use the new member document. One person I

knew had a recurrence and her doctor was friends with Dr Abraham. He put her on

200 mgs of Iodoral a day plus the Vit C, ATP CoFactors and a few other things.

Her cancer was leaving her lymph nodes but she got freaked out and decided to do

the surgical removal of the lymph nodes before seeing if it was totally

resolved. I would have loved to see that one resolve fully.

My doc is on board with iodine ever since I handed him the big ole magazine full

of research by Abraham/Brownstein/Flechas. He read it on vacation and it made a

believer out of him. However, he thinks I take too much Iodoral, LOL. Go

figure. I also see Dr. Flechas in NC.

I would wait more than two months for my next ultrasound. Six would be

better....

Laurel,

Just curious. Your nodules have grown and you have a solid mass. Did this all

happen while on iodine or are you new to iodine? Blessings to your health.

This is what I mean when I say that even educated MDs are usually way too

cautious when they do prescribe iodine.

It was a special edition of The Original Internist. I have tried to find it to get more copies but cannot. I got mine as a gift directly from Dr. Abraham. :)http://www.clintpublications.com/index.html

It is basically all these manuscripts in one book http://www.optimox.com/pics/Iodine/opt_Research_I.shtml

I see this on the bottom of the page so maybe you can buy it from Dr Abraham (Optimox):

Deidre - I was on 12.5mg Iodoral for maybe 6 months in 2009. I went off for 10

days over Christmas and never went back on. I think I should've never stopped.

I don't intend to stop this time.

  • 3 weeks later...

I want to know the same thing. I have papillary carcinoma (but how can they

prove that w/o taking my thyroid out? ) and am scheduled for surgery on Sept

27th. Frantically continuing to look online for other people who have said " NO "

to surgery and RAI.

My endocrinologist hates iodine and told me not to take any. I used to take

it, and now wonder if my nodule started AFTER I discontinued taking the iodine.

I need to find a doctor

who (in Albuquerque) who will support my search for alternative methods. I have

really cleaned up my diet and started doing a partial Budwig protocol a few

weeks ago.

After finding this group I was so mad at the advice I have been given that I

took one Iodoral immediately. I probably need more and may gradually increase. I

am stuck with Levothroid with this doctor who took me off " Thyroid " , a natural

hormone by Erfa that I was getting from Canada and was happy with except my

" numbers " were all off? This is a real puzzle to figure out.

----- I think you should increase Iodoral to a therapeutic dose quickly, not gradually. and go bacck to ERFA.

For those fighting cancer, iodine amounts taken range from 100 - 300 mgs / day. If you are serious about getting on top of it quickly then a slowly easing into the dosing at higher amounts is probably not a good idea. You also need to be serious about taking the companion nutrients as well as concentrating on detoxing. Most cancers are due to low nutrient levels with high toxicity.

Hi

I have had the same diagnosis (Dec 09) and am currently following the iodine protocol and a few others and have not agreed to have my thyroid out at this time. I agree with the others in that a gradual build up of iodine will take too much time.

Look after yourself and don't be pressured into doing something you don't want to do so quickly is my advice,
