success and then failure with iodine

Earlier this year I began using iodine. I began using it in very small dosages

at first because I am one of those very sensitive people whose body over-reacts

to supplements, herbs and meds. On the small doses of 6, then 12 to 18 mg of

Iodoral per day I was having success. My hypo symptoms were going away and even

my eyesight was improving.

Then suddenly the hypo symptoms and poor eyesight returned with a vengeance! I

was cold, shedding hair, sleepy, I had swollen lower legs, and other bad hypo

symptoms. I looked online for information that would clue me in as to how 2-3

months of low dose Iodoral could do this to me. I read somewhere that Iodine CAN

raise a person's TSH, sometimes. So, I cannot afford a lot of blood tests and

doctor visits (can barely affored groceries, on social security, too young for

medicare, no health insurance...)I just quit the iodoral. Within a few weeks,

the hypo symptoms lessened a bit.I assume this is because my TSH went back down

to a less extreme level.

I am still on about 10mg per day of hydrocortisone becuase of AF. I take

Thyroid-S in about 45mg amount about 4x a week. More thyroid med than that and I

get worse hypo symptoms!! Now that I take NO iodoral and small occasional doses

of thyroid-S, my AVERAGE daily temp is somewhat low (abt 98.1) but it achieves

98.6 from about noon until 5pm daily. I still have swelling in my lower legs,

thin hair, need daytime naps, and have slow healing of bruises and wounds.

Because meds and supplements---even vitamins, minerals, iodine, adrenal

supplements, melatonin etc. seem to build up in my body too easily, (I think

it's a " slow " liver...runs in the family. Slow liver means our livers process

substances at a slower rate than normal.)

Bottom line, as physically sensitive person (like the canary in the coal mine)

with a slow-functioning liver, I seem to only be able to de-tox my thyroid and

liver in micro-steps. This still leaves me in a chronic state of subclinical

hypothryoidism.

Is anybody else on this forum really sensitive to meds, vitamins, herbs,

supplements? Do you have a " slow " liver that allows stuff to build up in your

body---and only de-toxes or processes things slowly?

What did you do to de-tox your thyroid and liver? I would like to know what

would work or succeed in thyroid/liver detox for this type of situation---if

anyone has ever gone thorugh this??

thanks much!
