Guest guest
Being hypothyroid, currently on T3 alone (60 mcg split in 6 doses), and a long-time low carber (with a brief interlude just at the moment on HCG very successfully), I found the following article and comments very interesting: http://perfecthealthdiet.com/?p=4328 The article suggests sufficient protein, moderate carb comprising minority of calories and high intake of sat/monosat fat but low intake of polyunsat fat is optimal for thyroid function and mentions 50g carbs as the minimum recommended by some, including Dr Eades. One of the comments talks about low carbers who think they're getting 50g carbs may not be, if it's mostly from non-starchy veg - says non-starchy veg doesn't always get utilised as it's consumed by bacteria. Advocates including some starch from potatoes or other 'safe' starches to avoid low carbers' thyroids slowing down. Yikes - eating potatoes etc would be a bit of a culture shock for me! Has anyone found any more detail on this topic? Jackie Bushell
