Guest guest
I just began the iodine protocol this week and just want to make sure of a couple of things: 1.) Is it o.k. to take the Iodoral and companion supplements in the morning with breakfast, but wait and drink my Celtic Sea Salt water at lunch time? This works best for me, but I want to make sure that it is not a problem. 2.) Is it o.k. to put the Celtic Sea Salt in some watered-down juice, in order to make it more palatable for me? 3.) To be honest, my biggest concerns have been hair loss and sleep issues (falling asleep, restless sleep). Diurnal Cortisol testing via ZRT Lab shows good results, so adrenals appear to be in good shape. Thyroid testing indicates a little hypo, but not too bad. Do you think that the Iodine protocol alone, without the use of any thyroid meds, would be my best route? With thanks,
Guest guest
Hi , 1. Yes, it is okay to take Iodoral and companion supplements with breakfast and wait until lunch to drink your salt water. Make sure you also use Celtic sea salt liberally on your food as well. 2.Yes, it is fine to put the sea salt in juice 3. So you are not on any thyroid meds now? What thyroid tests did you have done? TSH is worthless to measure thyroid health. FreeT3 and FreeT4 are the best indicators of thyroid health. If you had these done and they say you are 'a little hypo', if it were me, I would consider taking NTH. Hair loss can be related to hypothyroidism as can sleep troubles. Some do well on iodine so much that they do not need thyroid hormone; but it is really an individual thing and we can't tell you what to do about that. Another thing to consider is this...showing ' a little hypo' on thyroid function tests depends on the range of those tests. Blood tests are formulated to include a broad spectrum of the population. The old time thyroid doctors would go on symptoms, even if the patient tested 'normal' on blood tests. Some enlightened thyroid doctors these days do that as well. However, sadly, these doctors are few and far between and very hard to find these days. So in the end, whether you take thyroid hormone as well is up to you. Hope this isnt too confusing. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen, Thanks so much for your reply. That is correct - I am NOT on any thyroid meds at all. Here are the tests I've done and my results: Thyroglobulin antibodies = <20 IU/ml (Ref. range <20) Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies = <10 IU/ml (Ref. range <35) DHT = <3 ng/dl (Ref. range 5-30) TSH, 3rd generation = 1.40 mIU/L (Ref. range 0.40-4.5) T4,Free = 1.2 ng/dL (Ref. range 0.8-1.8) T3,Free = 304 pg/dL (Ref. range 230-420) Testosterone, Total = 16 ng/dL (Ref. range 2-45) % Free Testosterone = 0.86% (Ref. range 0.5-2.0) Testosterone, Free = 1.4 pg/mL (Ref. range 0.1-6.4) DHEA Sulfate = 73 mcg/dL (Ref. range 25-220) Progesterone = 1.2 ng/mL Follicular Phase (Ref. range < 1.4 Follicular Phase) Estradiol = 51 pg/mL (Ref. range 11-212) NTH is Nature Throid, right? Is that something that I can purchase without an Rx from my doctor, or does it require an Rx? Again, thank you for your help New to protocol - couple of questions I just began the iodine protocol this week and just want to make sure of a couple of things: 1.) Guest guest
Hi , NTH = natural thyroid hormone. Naturethroid, Armour and Erfa (from Canada) are all natural thyroid hormone. I take Naturethroid and do well on it. Most do. After Armour was reformulated a few years ago, most report not having good results with it. All three require a prescription. Your Frees could be a bit higher, most feel better in the upper ranges.
