Great news . Thanks for sharing with us! Kathleen

salt

I just wanted to tell you all, I used to be unable to eat salt because it made me swell up. No kidding. You couldn't tell I had ankles. Then I read what you all were saying about Celtic Salt, and I read the New Member Files and Dr Brownstein's books on iiodine and salt.I bought Celtic Salt and started using it on food. No swelling! Then I started actually taking it as a companion nutrient (along with iodine and the other companion vitamins). No swelling! It is pretty amazing. I am up to 8 drops of 2 percent Lugol's and counting. Pino

,

That's amazing, isn't it?

I still have some swelling now and then. I eat a lot of butter so I started buying UNsalted butter. I let it soften and then stir in 1/4 teaspoon Real salt per stick.

I thought I was doing fine with eating "sea salt" potato chips (my weakness) until someone (I think on this group) mentioned that it's usually refined/processed 'sea salt' in processed foods. I needed to stop eating them anyway :(.

I put 1/2 tsp into OJ (4-6 oz) in the morning.

I am having a hard time getting getting the salt into me. I am taking a half teaspoon of finely ground pink salt mixed with about a half cup of warm water. I just can't seem to get it down. Any suggestions?

I was having a hard time with the salt as well. I thought originally that something sweet would tone down the salt, but I've found that mixing it with V8, tomato or home made veggie juice diguises the salt best.iodine From: ladybugsandbees@...Date: Fri, 5 Aug 2011 09:42:12 -0400Subject: Re: Salt

I just toss it in the back of my mouth and then drink a glass of water quick to wash it down.  Easier than drinking salted water, juice, etc and the salt is out of your mouth very quickly and into the stomach.  Some people use capsules to enclose the salt so they don't have to taste it, but not sure how many capsules you'd need to do to get enough.

I take 3 of the largest sized capsules every day. It's equal to 1/2 to 3/4 tsp of salt. Just tried putting itinto my tomato juice and stirred it up. It tastes wonderful so if you like tomato juice, that's a pretty good

idea. I think I'll do it that way from now on, cheaper than buying gel caps.ArielOn Fri, Aug 5, 2011 at 11:25 AM, jaxi <jaxi.schulz@...> wrote:

I love the Celtic Sea Salt and I keep my daily dose in a little bowl on the kitchen counter. Then, I take pinches of it all day and chew it and enjoy the flavor because, to me, it tastes sweet as well as salty. I also add it to foods, even salads. It's certainly cured my lifelong salt craving, as I don't eat baked Lays Potato Crisps anymore.MargeFrom: Ariel Monserrat <wolvenwood@...>To:

Hi everybody,I am very confused about the need for salt. I have been taking the iodine for 2 weeks and am a fan. Question How is it better to drink salt water than to heavily salt food? and alsoMy husband has high blood pressure and the doctor just gave him meds that will flush salt out of his system. I am very nervous for him. I am just not encouraging him to take his meds and encouraing him to take magnesuim if he does. Personally, I think the blood pressure meds are bad news. There are books (including "The High Blood Pressure Hoax") which tell you how to reduce your BP through diet & supplements. Your body NEEDS salt -- wild animals go to places where they can lick salt out of the ground. Farmers put out big bricks of salt for the cows to lick. Personally, I think getting salt out of the body is a stupid damn idea. Unfortunately, table salt really IS toxic, so you need to start with more healthful salt. That said, you need to get him a little BP monitor (if he doesn't have one already) & you need to monitor his BP while you make dietary changes & get educated. It's not just a matter of salt vs. no salt. Salt is very healthful in the context of a healthful diet & supplement program -- but it's up to you to learn how to provide the healthful program. (Clearly your doc is not the person to help you do that.)I don't think it matters how you get the salt on board, as long as you get it. Personally, I can't abide the salt water, so I make up capsules & drink them down with lots of water. I am having to relearn to salt my food, since I spent so many years listening to the scary tales about Demon Salt. But salting your food is also a good way to get salt. (It's just that most of us don't use enough salt on food to take care of the halides.)AnneOn Aug 5, 2011, at 10:48 AM, Bridges wrote:

Do you have another powder that you take during the day that you could include it in a mixture? Like Diatomaceous Earth? I think I would do that, tho I have not needed to do the salt loading yet. But I would combine salt with another powder, take a spoon full in my mouth and then wash it down quick. Salt, by itself, would be too shocking to me. That is why I thought of mixing it with something.Hey, I might even start doing that, since I take DE already.LynFrom: ladybugsandbees <ladybugsandbees@...>

I actually put my salt and my Lugols drops into the small amount of water that I

mix my diatomaceous earth in and I can usually take one big swallow and then

just drink something else to rinse my mouth and get enough fluid into my stomach

to prevent any upset from the salt.

Taking that combo is not nearly as difficult as taking the LDN at night. That's

bitter and a little more difficult to rinse out of my mouth.

Hi.I have had problems getting the salt into me as well. I tried taking it by the spoon and following with water and that made me feel nauseous. I tried taking a few clumps with each pill I swallowed, still no go. I recently tried adding it to a little warm water and that has worked well. Sometimes I have to add more water to the glass to get it all in me as well as having a glass of cold water on hand to get the salty flavor out of my mouth. I like salt too. What I have been doing that has worked for me is to add my iodine to the same glass of warm salt water. That was even easier and quicker. Recently I have been drinking home made beet kvass as an aid to digestion and health.http://www.westonaprice.org/food-features/kvass-and-kombucha-gifts-from-russia "Beet Kvass

Kvass can also be made from beets. The result is not so much epicurean as medicinal, although beet kvass is often added to

borscht. No traditional Ukranian home was without its bottle

of beet kvass, according to Lubow A. Kylvska, author of Ukranian Dishes, "handy and ready when a pleasing, sour flavor had to be added to soups and vinaigrettes."

Folk medicine values beets and beet kvass for their liver cleansing properties and beet kvass is widely used in cancer therapy in Europe. Anecdotal reports indicate that beet kvass is an excellent therapy for chronic fatigue, chemical sensitivities, allergies and digestive problems."And while I don't know if any of this is true, I do know I like beet kvass and also it completely masks the iodine flavor and a lot of the salt flavor too.Lin.>> I am having a hard time getting getting the salt into me. I don't know how to check this out BUT I have been told that beets are almost all GMO in the US at this point. Does anyone know how we can find out about this? If so, I would avoid beets that are grown here. Thank goodness many European countries aren't as on the bandwagon for all things new as we are here! Eat organic and make sure if you eat anything out of a can states organic. I googled to look this up and all I could find is that 87% of our soy beans and corn are GM. Sugar beets are also GM because they make sugar from them. Most health food stuff is made from organic. But a lot of processed foods in boxes and cans are loaded with soy and vitamins and other foods too. From: Higgins <Luff2sail@...>iodine Sent: Mon, August 8, 2011 7:32:08 PMSubject: Re: Re: Salt

Has the iodine been added after the salt was refined Mandy. If

so, this is no good. You need pure unrefined salt.

Don't know the process is - just says salt + iodine so I would say added afterwards.

Has to be better than nothing - I always used to use Cerobos Iodised salt - but difficult to get hold of sometimes.

Just checked packet says iodised salt - so I daresay afterwards - but salt such as this was used in the USA years ago when a whole state virtually got a goiter - they iodised the salt and contained the situation.

This is the story I was telling you about which I am sure you all know about anyway as it is a vry famous incident.

Iodine Deficiency There are many areas around the world where soils are deficient in iodine, and iodine must be added to the diet -- usually through iodized salt. In the U.S., for example, the area around the Great Lakes used to be known as the goiter belt because the soil is particular iodine-deficient, and this resulted in higher incidence of goiter among residents of the area. Earlier in the 20th century, however, iodized salt almost wiped out iodine deficiency in the U.S. entirely. (they obviously stopped using it !!!!!

Mandy, the US removed iodine from their bread in 1945. They replaced it with

bromide, which is a toxic halide. Anyone born after 1945 did not have the

benefit of iodine in their bread, they relied only on the food they ate. This is

one of the reason we have so much disease now in people who were born after this

date who did not get a good percentage of iodine from their food.

It's been about 30-35 years now that our soil has also been depleted of iodine

and other nutrients. We do not want to take refined salt, because it is stripped

of all the 84-90 essential trace minerals which our system desperately needs.

But the unrefined salt (the good stuff) does not have high amounts of iodine in

it, we must also supplement with iodoral or lugol's drops to get the proper

amount of iodine which our systems need to survive healthfully...

Refined salt causes many problems whereas unrefined salt enhances the system.

Taking refined salt with iodine in it really isn't better than nothing. It's

about the worst thing you can do for yourself. The only thing which refined salt

is good for is sprinkling on snow or ice to help it melt.

Iodine deficiency is not only in the US, it is worldwide, every country on the

planet...... Australia just recently put iodine back into their bread to help

change the disease cycle. They had noticed quite a few problems which would

improve with iodine. But regardless of iodine in bread or refined salt, there is

still a deficiency.

Cheers,

JOT

Hi there Jot,

Well I am tested as iodine deficient and have Lugol's drops but when I take it my thyroid gland/neck pulsate and hurt - and my skins itches - it is seemingly causing me inflammation not improving - however I use all other salts but have also bought this because as far as I am concerned any iodine is better than nothing with the deficiency I have and I feel better for it and so does my 91 year old mother since she has been staying with me and me plying her with the salt to help her thyroid ...............

History of salt iodization

The ancient Greeks and others used iodine-rich seaweed to combat goiters, but it was not until 1821 that French nutritional chemist Baptiste Boussingault discovered salt iodine-rich salts could be used to treat goiter, though he did not understand its preventive role. At the same time, Swiss physican J.F. Coindet successfully employed iodine therapy for goiter. Thirty years later, another French scientist, A. Chatin hypothesized that iodine deficiency caused goiters, but an expert group of his country's Academy of Scientists rejected the claim and killed the idea for another half century.

In the years 1907-1909, Dr. Marine, a young doctor in Cleveland, OH, USA, began working explicitly on using iodine-fortified salt to prevent goiter. An early Marine effort to conduct a large-scale trial of iodized salt in the Cleveland public schools was vetoed by another doctor who served as chairman of the school board. That delayed the determined Dr. Marine until 1916 when he teamed with O.P. Kimball to convince the Akron, OH school board to conduct the experiment on elementary school girls (who had twice the incidence of goiter). The experiment was completely successful. The lead shifted to Michigan where, due to the strong leadership of Dr. Murray Cowie of the University of Michigan and the Michigan State Medical Society, a symposium highlighted the work in Akron and similar work in Switzerland. Dr. Cowie contacted Diamond Crystal Salt Company (now merged into Cargill Salt Company) and Morton Salt Company, leading to discussions with the salt producers association and by 1924 iodized salt was commonly available in the U.S. In less than a decade, 90+% of the salt consumed in the U.S. "goiter belt" was iodized. Goiter incidence plummeted, as an example, in Detroit from 9.7% to 1.4% in the first six years of using iodized salt.

Marine later worked on salt iodization for the World Health Organization and many areas have replicated the benefits of iodized salt.

Hi :

Iodine must be taken with the iodine protocol and should not be taken otherwise:

Supporting Nutrients for taking Iodine.

These are required to support the body while supplementing with iodine:

a. Vit C – 2,000 – 5,000 mgs / day – supports the symporters and assists

as an antioxidant to detoxing.

b. Selenium – 200 – 400 mcg / day – needed for detoxification and thyroid

hormone creation.

c. Unrefined salt (Celtic) – ½ tsp / day – supports adrenals, binds to

bromide and assists in removal, supports symporters (sodium iodine symporters or

NIS)

d. Magnesium – 400 mgs / day – critical for over 300 enzyme reactions in

the body.

e. Optional – ATP CoFactors -1 tablet 2x / day – when individuals continue

to feel fatigued or have autoimmune thyroid disease this product can assist in

increasing ATP (energy) within the cells. Riboflavin and no-flush niacin.

Daily Supplementing – Supplementing should be approximately ½ - 1 tsp of

unrefined salt (ie: Celtic, Himalayan, Redmond's) to assist in the removal of

toxins released by iodine. You should not, under any circumstances, utilize

table salt. This is a toxic substance that has been cleaned by a brine

containing chloride. Unrefined salt such as Celtic Salt contains a full

spectrum of minerals. These minerals help to maintain balance in the body and

do not " behave " like a refined salt. You will not experience hypertension or

edema from a good unrefined salt. Unrefined salt is also healing for the

adrenals which can become stressed during detoxing.

I put up several links to salt research and articles today which you may want to

review and save to your computer. I cannot under any circumstances condone

anyone taking white table salt (refined salt). I cannot stop people from taking

table salt any more than I can ask the Sun not to shine. If you have Hashi's and

it upsets your throat, you should be on the iodine protocol for a good 2-3 weeks

before you start iodine supplementation.

Cheers,

JOT

> Hi JOT - this bit about Hashis is confusing me because I`ve just listed to Dr.

Ian Beckingham`s presentations (Part 4) where he says anyone with Hashis should

not be taking Iodine because it makes more of TPO. There may be something I`m

not understanding here. I don`t know whether anyone`s watched his videos but I

have found them very informative in understanding the whole endocrine process.
