Guest guest
Hi - I saw the same youtube and I'm a patient of Dr. Flechas. I'm also anemic, have hashi's and adrenal fatigue. He never mentioned stomach acid to me but after doing a lot of reading I'm pretty convinced that my anemia stems from gut issues and that I need to get myself on the GAPS diet asap. If you haven't heard of the GAPS diet I believe there is a lot of information on the web and also a group. I only just started the book so I don't know everything that is involved yet. I'm hoping to see my anemia resolve itself in time without taking massive doses of iron. Flechas told me to take 200mg iron per day. The doc who wrote the GAPS diet book totally disagrees with that. She says fix the gut and the anemia will fix itself. Also, anemia seems to run in my family somewhat. My mom had to have B12 shots from age 15 until she had her first child at age 30. Her grandmother died of pernicious anemia (which is an auto-immune disorder). Best of luck, Laurel > > Hi All, > > I started taking iodine after doing some web research and finding out that there is a connection with lack of iodine and low stomach acid, or achlorhydria (or hypochlorhydria, a lesser condition). I found that I could pretty much go off the HCl if I took Niacin with the Iodine protocol recommended by Brownstein. But I'm not out of the woods by a long shot. > > My adult acne got much better with iodine, but if I drink city water I immediately get a detox reaction--bromism, or just a cooincidence? > > > Anybody? > >
Guest guest
I no longer need to take HCl, I took it for a short while, maybe about 6 months. I think iodine and other items healed the gut issues. Guest guest
I've been taking iodine for almost a year and at the same time, Zantac for heartburn. I read a bookcalled something like " Stomach Acid: Why you need it " - Ido, you recommended it, can you give usthe exact title? It was a great book and got me off Zantac, which do FAR more harm than I ever suspected. I suspect that much of my anemia came from taking that stuff. I gradually lowered my intake of it and now don't need anything but it's only been a few weeks. Basically, Zantac makes your stomach quit producing acid so you do't absorb as much of the nutrients in your food as your body needs. I don't know if the iodine helped or not, sorry. But the book recommends papain, bromelin and betaine Hcl which I don't need any more, it didn't seem to help, only make it worse. That's about the extent of what I know about iodine and the gut. Guest guest
I was having stomach acid problems. Initially, I was scoped and the GI doctor diagnosed GERD and gastritis and put me on PPIs. Eventually, I was taking PPI plus Zantac 4x daily. It didn't make sense that I would need THAT much help controlling stomach acid. So I did some research and came upon Dr. 's book on Stomach Acid. I tried vinegar and then Betaine HCl. I have to take a lot of betaine HCl. My ND and MD both wanted me scoped to make sure I wasn't doing damage by NOT taking the prescription meds and also taking the amount of betaine HCl. I had to have a consult with the GI to set up this new scope and he said he didn't have a feeling one way or the other about the betaine HCl but figured it was a placebo effect, but he figured the scope would tell the story. My scope came back as healthy stomach and esophagus, no gastritis. At that point though, I wasn't on iodine. I noticed when I took the 50mg Iodoral for the loading test, I didn't need betaine HCl all day. I Googled it and found a few references suggesting low iodine affects the gastric acidity. (Also, my ND, at my request, ordered other testing to rule out other certain causes of my stomach problems: H. Pylori breath and blood test, Heidelberg test, and antiparietal antibodies...the Heidelberg test showed a very low and slow response to the alkaline challenge; the other tests were negative for antibodies.) Strangely enough, the heartburn/acidity issues all started around the same time I started having thyroid problems. I still need betaine HCl since starting Iodoral, but not nearly as much. > > Hi All, > > I started taking iodine after doing some web research and finding out that there is a connection with lack of iodine and low stomach acid, or achlorhydria (or hypochlorhydria, a lesser condition).
