Guest guest
Hello Sheila and fellow members,First of all, we are not aware that he has a thyroid problem - so apologies to the mods if you feel this post is not appropriate, I won't be offended. My husband has not been feeling too well lately so made an appointment with the doctor who ran some blood tests:- Lab Results 26.8.2011 Serum TSH Level – 1.6 (0.3 – 5.5) Full Blood Count Haemoglobin - 14.3 (13 – 18) Total white cell count – 4.8 (4 – 11) Platelet count – 244 (150 – 450) Red blood cell (RBC) - 4.68 (4 – 6.5) Haematocrit – 0.434 (0.4 – 0.54) Mean corpuscular volume (MCV) – 93 (84 – 102) Mean corpusc haemoglobin (MCH) – 30.6 (28 – 33) Mean corpusc Hb conc (MCHC) – 32.9 (30 – 35) Liver Function Test Serum alkaline phosphatase – 50 (40 – 130) ALT/SGPT serum level – 24 (0 – 45) Serum gamma GT level – 26 (0 – 55) Serum total bilirubin level – 13 (0 – 21) Serum albumin – 40 (30 – 50) Serum total protein – 77 (60 – 80) Urea and electrolytes Serum sodium – 140 (134 – 145) Serum potassium – 4.7 (3.5 – 5.3) Serum urea level – 5.3 (2 – 6.5) Serum creatinine – 88 (70 – 120) GFR 77 Serum testosterone – 10.1 (8 -27) Differential white cell count Neutrophil count – 1.6 (2.0 – 7.5) Lymphocyte count – 2.5 (1 – 4.0) Monocyte count – 0.5 (0.1 – 1.5) Eosinophil count – 0.2 (0.04 – 0.4) Basophil count – 0.0 (0 – 0.15) Blood glucose level – 4.8 (3 – 6) Prostrate specific antigen – 0.27 (0 – 3) Serum lipids Serum cholesterol – 5.6 - no range given Serum triglycerides – 1.0 (0.4 – 1.8) Serum HDL cholesterol level – 1.9- no range given Serum LDL cholesterol level – 3.2- no range given (fasting) Total cholesterol HDL ratio – 2.9 ratio - no range given It would seem that he has low white blood cell count -what does this mean and what would this do to his health overall? With a TSH of1.6 would that indicate any sort of thyroid issue? For years he has had problems with falling asleep - in that he only has to sit down for a few mins and he falls asleep - I know he works hard physically and that he is 59 but I think this nodding off is excessive. He does not take any sort of supplements. And he could do with losing a stone or two.He does suffer with feeling off but with no specific symptoms - he has had backache on the right hand side at about waist level - doc says this is caused by stress and offered his anti-depressents - Citralapram (SP) he does not want to take them. Life in general is very stressful at the moment with jobs, money etc - having come back from Thailand last year and having to start over, the past year has been very difficult to say the least.Any thoughts would be appreciated - thank you - Carol in the UK
