Most YMCA's have pool accommodations for handicapped people. It is often part of their mission to provide rehab programs and assistance with pool access.another avenue would be to call rehab services and ask.Joan

Can anyone tell me. I would like to go to a hydrotherapy pool for exercise. Just to be able to stand up out of my wheelchair with the help of the water would be great for me. The water is 34 degrees so quite warm. I know chlorine probably not good for me to swim in but I need exercise. What do you think ?

There have been several discussions on the list of other methods of disinfecting pools, but since this is not your own pool, you don't have that option. (I am assuming that you have asked, & they indeed use chlorine. Though it would be worth checking, if you haven't, because some pools use different agents.) I see your dilemma, because exercise would be important for you, too, & your needs are specialized.To some degree, the iodine protocol would tend to offset the chlorine. But it seems to me that some group members were doing other things to offset the chlorine...I just noodled around on Google, & found suggestions -- but I don't know how valid they are.Moisturize your skin with a lotion that forms a protective film before you get in the pool.Get your hair wet with non-chlorinated water before you go in, so your hair doesn't absorb chlorine. (? One source even recommended putting conditioner on your hair & a swim cap before you enter the water. This sounds unpleasant -- driving to the pool with a wet head?)Take a cold, non-chlorinated shower after you get out. (Heat opens the pores -- cold water closes them.)Take a detoxing bath (with epsom salts, & /or magnesium chloride, & /or sea salt) or use magnesium oil.Moisturize your skin after your shower.Take extra probiotics, as the chlorine will tend to kill off gut flora.AnneOn Jul 19, 2011, at 5:13 PM, Jess Mark wrote:
