Guest guest
Just had an ultra sound of my thyroid and I have nodules, not sure yet how many or size will find out Monday. I know I'm deficient in iodine so should I start it asap or wait for a iodine loading test? When I start should I start at 12.5 Iodoral for a month? I'm hoping the iodine reduces the nodules. Will I need to change my T3 dosage when I begin iodine? Thanks, Olivia
Guest guest
Thyroid nodules are really, REALLY common. Don't let the docs panic you. When my thyroid nodule was found, I was fed a lot of scary BS about biopsies & possible cancer & so on. The only person who stood up against this crapola was an ultrasound tech, who wasn't allowed to tell me anything about my own nodules. But what she DID tell me was that when they got their newest ultrasound machine, all of the techs practiced on each other to learn how to use it. She tells me that almost all of them found nodules they didn't know they had. She more or less indicated to me with winks & sign language that they were nothing to worry about. Many of us have had nodules shrink on iodine, so I would definitely encourage you to give it a try. Many of us don't even bother with the test, & it is certainly not a requirement for trying the iodine protocol. Some people have to reduce their thyroid meds once they are iodine sufficient, but you have to wait to see how you feel before you even think about that. Let your body tell you if a change is needed, & don't make any changes until you feel the change.AnneOn Jul 16, 2011, at 7:54 AM, olyone1111 wrote: Just had an ultra sound of my thyroid and I have nodules, not sure yet how many or size will find out Monday. Guest guest
About reducing thyroid meds: I got some jolts of energy once I started the iodine protocol and thought it meant I should reduce my thyroid meds. I did so, and wound up losing ground in my healing and ultimately found that not only did I not need to reduce them, I needed to increase them. I didn't know how good I could feel until the iodine started supporting my health. I don't see it as a negative that I increased it, because what I'm seeking is optimal health, not some arbitrary goal of getting off thyroid meds. I'd rather be on the meds than go back to no metabolism and sluggish mind. So don't experience one " up " day and think that means reduce thyroid hormone. About metabolism: I lost 35 pounds over a year starting a few months into the iodine protocol, without really doing much except I was eating a lot of greens from my garden. I had to get my adrenals going again, and then the weight started dropping. -- At 02:02 PM 7/16/2011, you wrote: >Thyroid nodules are really, REALLY common. Guest guest
Very interesting. Yes, most people have nodules, and most of them are benign. Unfortunately, two of my fourteen nods were biopsied positive for cancer. BUT! Maybe it doesn't matter so much that some are cancerous, because the iodine is working on them all. Maybe it takes longer for the iodine to work on cancerous nodules, I don't know. I am guessing at least 2-3 years. It can be hard not to worry because, of course, thyroid cancer can break through its capsule and spread, even do something called " skip metastases " . In that it feels more malevolent than ordinary nodules. But iodine protocol and rigorous adherence to diet will arrest the growth of all nodules, cancerous and benign. Less than rigorous adherence to the dietary part will still even bear results, though prob take longer. I kind of wish I didn't know it was cancer; I wouldn't always be fending off the docs and family over surgery, and I would go on my way, happily visualizing the iodine slowly and steadily destroying my nodules. Guest guest
As you may know, the vast majority of thyroid cancers—including the ones diagnosed by biopsy—never cause any illness regardless of whether they are treated or not. Even with no iodine, no dietary change, no surgery, no radiological destruction of the thyroid, they do no harm. Of course, a small percentage of these cancers can be very dangerous, so it is a very personal choice how hard to look for such cancer and what to do, if anything, if it is found. I strongly recommend Dr. Gilbert Welch's books for some much-needed perspective on thyroid cancer, other cancers, and the huge problem of overdiagnosis in general. Welch's work will give you a lot of ammunition when you need to defend yourself against bullying doctors and hysterical relatives. http://www.amazon.com/Should-Be-Tested-Cancer-Maybe/dp/0520248368/ref=sr_1_2?ie=\ UTF8 & qid=1310901646 & sr=8-2 http://www.amazon.com/Overdiagnosed-Making-People-Pursuit-Health/dp/0807022004/r\ ef=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & qid=1310901663 & sr=8-1 > Yes, most people have nodules, and most of them are benign. Guest guest
Marcy - How do you know that the iodine is working on the cancerous ones? Have you had follow up ultrasounds or biopsies? Also, how much iodine are you taking per day and how long have you been taking it? Thanks!
