Guest guest
Hi Carol, I have had some blood tests done in the past week. I am on 3.25 grains of NDT Erfa and 1 x NAX. Total thyroidectomy 9 years ago. Am 55 years of age and menopausal. Having bad hot flushes every 60 - 70 minutes. Not on any form of HRT - gives me chronic backache. Se3renity cream does nothing for me – have established that my Eastrogen is low. Give the Serenity cream a fair chance, Carol. It takes at least 3 months before you get any real benefit. If your Oestrogen is low, the Progesterone (Serenity) will bring it up in time, but it take several months... (more than 3) As for the flushes – avoid eating very hot or spicy foods and hot drinks and avoid sugar and alcohol like the plague. Up the NAX to 2 a day and take Vit C and Co-Q 10 and Selenium (180 iu). Your adrenals are still too weak - hence the flushes.Had asked for Zinc, Copper and Magnesium to be done but not got those back yet.Lab Results – 26.8.2011Serum vitamin D - 57 (24 – 167) too low, do supplement 4000 Vit D 3 per day (best taken at night). Level should be around 100 Serum testosterone - 2.2 (0 – 2.8) okSerum B12 - 472 (190 – 800)too low – should be at the top. Supplement with Solar's B12 nuggets 1000 iu/day (take at night)Serum Iron TestsSerum ferritin – 57 (12 – 300) too low – should be 90-100. You need to supplement – well away from NDT and take iron together with Vit C.Serum folate 8.8 (3.9 – 14)okBone ProfileSerum alkaline phosphatase – 131 (40 – 130) too high, but this is most likely a result of low Vit D3 and should normalize with D3 supplementation within 8 weeksSerum calcium – 2.39 (2.20 – 2.60) okSerum inorganic phosphate – 1.26 (0.8 – 1.45) okSerum albumin – 35 (30 – 50)ok love, xx
Guest guest
Hi Carol - see my comments below Lab Results – 26.8.2011 Serum vitamin D - 57 (24 – 167) (Was this D2 or D3 you were tested for? Vitamin D2 and D3 should be high in the reference range and this is far too low.) Serum B12 - 472 (190 – 800) - (would be better if right at the top of the range. You could supplement with a good sublingual B12 1000mcgs daily (Solgar is good)) Serum Iron Tests Serum ferritin – 57 (12 – 300) - (Too low. This should be somewhere within the region of 100 to 130 so you need to supplement with some form of elemental iron such as Ferrous Sulphate or Fumerate 200mgs daily. You might want to double this to start with to start to really boost your ferritin. Take high doses vitamin C with this to help with absorption i.e. 3/4000mgs daily.) Serum folate 8.8 (3.9 – 14) (This is also on the low side and you would benefit from 5mgs daily of Folic Acid, or speak with the pharmacist at your local chemist. Guest guest
Hi Carol Serum vitamin D - 57 (24 – 167) too low, do supplement 4000 Vit D 3 per day (best taken at night). Level should be around 100 - where is the best place to get these from - if I can get some money together I can get some? I buy my Vit D from Vitacost in the US. This is what I take. http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Vitamin-D3-as-Cholecalciferol-4-000-IU-300-Capsules It's under £ 18, so won't attract VAT or Royal Mail charges, but it takes 3-4 weeks to arrive normally. Bone ProfileSerum calcium – 2.39 (2.20 – 2.60) ok Can you tell me is this the calcium that reflects the state of your bones - ie. against brittle bones - the calcium that docs are so concerned about with taking NDT? I imagine so... but contrary to common belief calcium does not produce significant new bone tissue nor does it strengthen the bone ...the calcium levels in the body are controlled by the parathyroid glands. New bone tissue is produced by minerals and most of all by Vit D3. So taking calcium will not strengthen your bones – it will just make them brittle. Here is an interesting article about the value of taking calcium to strengthen bone density..... http://www.bmj.com/content/333/7572/775.full love, xx
Guest guest
> why is it best to take Vit D3 and Vit B12 at night? This is something Dr. Theodora Mantzourani told me when I asked her when to best take certain supplements... she said that everything that helps to repair the body is best taken at night time, because that is the time the body does all its repair work – whilst we sleep J Best wishes,
Guest guest
Hi Jaki, I am pleased to hear that your calcium levels have normalized. I don't know your age, but if by any chance you were menopausal, then that might explain a certain loss of calcium. If your calcium levels fluctuate a lot however, then you need to find out why. Calcium levels are controlled by the parathyroid glands and usually kept within a very small norm range from which they (normally) do not deviate. The below is worth reading, even though this is very likely not your problem. High calcium is the indicator for parathyroid problems, and yours was the opposite. But still, the article explains things very well, and it's good to make a mental note of the implications. Low calcium in most cases indicates a severe lack of Vit D3 and should normalize with the supplementation of D3. Another tip if your body loses calcium... remember the following - 'minerals follow acid' (is something Dr. Myhill said in one of her interviews). Our bodies need to be alkaline to utilize the mineral and vitamins properly; confusingly this means that our stomachs need to be acidic enough. If there is not enough hydrochloric acid in our stomachs, then our bodies become too acidic.... and when this happens our acidic bodies are chucking out our minerals instead of using them... - so make sure you have enough stomach acid in yours. Please read this article.... http://dshedu.com/HowTo/Betaine/ and also this one http://parathyroid.com/parathyroid-function.htm All the best,
