Guest guest
I think you are talking about your vitamin D3 blood test result, but in the first line, you mentioned vitamin B. Yes, such a\ results is low, but it is always best to post the reference range for each blood test you have had done Debbie, otherwise we have no idea whether it is at the bottom, the middle or the top of the range. So remember this for the future. You may need to continue to take vitamin D supplements to really build your level up, say 3000/4000mcgs daily after your initial injection. Have you had your B12 tested together with ferritin, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc. If not, you need these testing too. Luv - Sheila Hi I have just got the results of my Vit B blood test backand would appreciate some help. My total vit D is 17 apparently the optimum should be 50+ Is this very low? I am having an injection tomorrow 300,000 units Do I need to take any more supplements or is this enough for the next 6 months? My Gp doesnt seem to know ,___
Guest guest
Hi Sheila of course I mean vitamin D , damn brain fog! I took your list of tests to my GP along with the references and he actually stapled it to the lab request, hence I got all the tests done. The only one that has come back low is the vitamin D. I had to speak to another doc as mine is on holiday. When I asked him the range he said " well its confusing " so I was unable to post. he then said he'd prescribe ergocalciferol 1.25mg. I asked him for the injection giving the reason that I am being treated for a suspected stomach ulcer. he told me he was looking in the book and obviously knows nothing on how to prescribe. he said to get another blood test in 3-6 months. I will probably just have to buy somw more Vit D. Thank you so much Sheila with out your advice I would not even know I was deficient. keeping my fingers crossed for big improvements xxxx Debbie xxxx > > I think you are talking about your vitamin D3 blood test result, but in the > first line, you mentioned vitamin B. Guest guest
Hi Debbie, Ergocalciferol is Vitamin D2. I have vitamin D deficiency and am prescribed D3 so theres a curious thing! If you go onto the website Vitamin D Council there is all sorts of information about supplementing with vitamin D. The site recommends supplementing using D3 not D2 -my memory has dimmed over the reason why. Low vitamin D causes extreme fatigue and loss of muscle tone especially in the thighs, alongside pain....so it can mimic hypothyroid symptoms. It also stops you being able to absorb calcium which if it went on for long eough leads to softening of your bones. Your doc has given you a large dose with the view that you won't need to take the supplement more regulary. You should find yourself sleeping well and suddenly feeling less foggy, less tired and the pain that is vit D related should start to ease pretty quickly. I had a large does of Vit D3 given to me by a NHS doc (200.000iu) and felt so much better for about a month, then the old symptoms crept back -happily went away again when supplmented with D3!
