Guest guest
Hi I'm new to this site but thought you may like to add this to your arsenal to bring up with your Gp's if they refuse to do anything other than a TSH test to determine whether or not you have a thyroid prob. Many years ago, before diagnosis I had numerous thyroid blood tests all of which came back " normal " well within the accepted range, despite my having a huge number of symptoms. In sheer frustration I had a private blood test done, which along with the TSH included FT3 and FT4. The results of this test showed my TSH was indeed " normal " at 1.4 but I had a FT4 of 9 and a FT3 off the bottom of the scale at 2! Everyone was amazed that I was still upright and functioning and not horizontal in a coma! I just thought my symptoms were magnified as a result of having had twins(ha, ha ,ha). Needless to say I was diagnosed with Myxoedema and started on T4 instantly. Please cite this as a reason you want the full range of tests doing. Best wishes The Painter
Guest guest
The entire reason TSH is an inadequate test is if you have CENTRAL HYPOTHYROID because then you will have all the symptoms but the blood tests will be " normal " Been there done it twice first with my husband 2nd with my daughter and contrary to the article in On Medica patients with Hashimotos have an Auto Immune Disease and CANNOT live a normal life because the auto immune attacks keep coming like a recurrant dose of the flu Thyroxine is useless Both of them have had every test in the book done and more but despite Armour etc they are still far from well and as the Endo said " you have an Auto immune Disease you will not feel well " Pat > > Hi I'm new to this site but thought you may like to add this to your arsenal to bring up with your Gp's if they refuse to do anything other than a TSH test to determine whether or not you have a thyroid prob.
