Ben:

Did you not call Nutrichem Pharmacy in Ottawa, Ontario, that I told you about?

From: iodine [mailto:iodine ] On Behalf Of Ben RocheSent: July 11, 2011 12:04 PMiodine Subject: Lugols In Canada

Hey Everyone. I live in Canada (Alberta). I initially ordered Idoral which was expensive. While on it I researched how I can take iodine cheaper using a Lugols solutions. I then proceeded to order some off ebay from a known source called Full Orchestra. The order went through but its been 3 weeks and its still not here. I since then have run out of Idoral, I am taking it to help with cancer and fight off yeast. In my time of running out of it I msg'd some of the group to see if there was a place in Canada I could find some in the mean time. I found out that Shoppers Drug mart will carry it. You have to call around your city to find a Shoppers that has a compounding pharmacy in it (not all do). In my particular case they did not have it in stock but could order it and it will only take 2 days. The lady checked her computer system and could not tell me if it was 2, 5 or 7%. Ive heard that they can carry 2 or 5%. Alternately I called London Drugs to see if they carried lugols. The said they do not but the guy checked his stock and there was a liquid iodine with the brand name "Rougier" in the antiseptic aisle. He said is had 2.5% Elemental Iodine and 2.5 % Potassium Iodine. I am not too knowledgeable if Lugols is a brand or name of mixture. Not sure if the London Drugs version can be taken, I would assume so because it is the two elements one needs but either way if you are stuck like me and need iodine in your system fast you can find some close to home. Who knows if I find out its just as effective I may just buy it from there to avoid shipping from the US, customs, mailing delays ect. Oh ya I should mention the shoppers drug mart lugols solution was $9.00 for 100ml. In case people wanted to know pricing as well.CheersBen

Ben when you buy these check if they have water or alcohol based. Only use alcohol which is rubbing alcohol on skin and not orally. PamOn Mon, Jul 11, 2011 at 5:30 PM, Bonnie Cole <bonnieview@...> wrote:

Ben-- as far as I can tell, the Rougier iodine is either tincture (contains

alcohol and shouldn't be ingested) or povidone iodine (contains other

chemicals and must not be ingested).

Hi Ben

I sent a message which appeared under your first post, telling you I'd

bought Lugols from Shoppers. You can buy 100 or 500 ml bottles and it

is 5% solution. I've been using it for a couple of months now and it

seems to work as well as Iodoral. The first bottle I bought was

manufactured by Medisca and is called Lugol's Strong Solution. The

second is manufactured by Xenex and is called Lugol's Solution and

reads 5% on the label (also says poison and recommends adult dosage .3

ml 3 times daily!). Colour is identical between the two. You can

Google the company and find information on their products.

Good to know that you found the product, good luck!

Ben I remember seeing Rougier stuff when I worked in pharmacy. Be extra sure

that it's not TINCTURE of iodine.

You can get lugols, or powder to make it, from Health in Sync in Barrie Ontario.

They're online

In Toronto, I found that Zellers was cheapest at $26/500ml last time I checked.

Shoppers wanted $30 or $35 depending on the location. The

Loblaw's/NoFrills/Supercentre pharmacies weren't able to special order it.

My experience with manufacturers is that you cannot buy directly from them

unless you have " a Veterinary, Doctor or Pharmacists license valid in Canada or

the United States " (direct from Xenex site).

Have you? I thought they only supplied to 'pharmacies, hospitals and other

professional end users'? (that was from their website)

Looking at the website again, I wonder if I disremembered or was misinformed.

what the something else might have been!

Hey Everybody

I thought I would respond to the group. Thank you for all your messages, I did

try calling the suggested pharmacies in Ottawa, Montreal and BC who all said if

I can get it from a shoppers locally, it's the same stuff and It would be easier

for long time use to get it from there.

So I decided to go with shoppers drug mart. The person I picked it up from at

the pharmacy admittedly had a limited amount of information on the product.

Could not even tell me if it was safe to take orally. They had never carried

this product so it took them about 30 min just to ring it through, set the skew

up in the system ect.

The bottle they gave me had the brand " Medisca " and a phone number

(1-800-665-6334). When I called with a slew of questions they told me that

legally they could not answer dosages, ingredients, percentages, mg's and if it

was or was not safe to take orally but they could answer these questions to a

pharmacist. The bottle had no information on it.

So I called the pharm back at shoppers to give him a list of my questions in

hopes he would call and get the answers. He was actually was more knowledgeable

than the person I dealt with last night. First he said the (Lugol's Strong

Solution, USP) could be taken orally as the USP in the name indicates safe

internal ingestion.

He believed it was an aqueous (water) based solution and not an alcohol based

solution, but could not be certain (he was one of those guys who cant ask for

directions when lost and would not just call Medisca to get answers, instead if

he could not find the answer he would just move on to the next one). So I still

dont know what the base of the solution is but I do know I can take it orally.

What my hesitation was is that the bottle says, strong solution, may be harmful

if swallowed, Im assuming thats when its not dilluted in water.

He told me each ml contained 130 mg of iodine (unsure of the ratio of potassium

iodine to elemental iodine). He said I should never be taking more than 0.1 ml

of the solution in water and should not be self medicating (I told him it was

being used as an antioxidant supplement).

I asked about drops and how many drops should I take and he said drops are a

terrible measurement, can be effected by the room temperature, which angle you

hold the dropper, size of dropper, and the amount of pressure applied to get the

drop out. I said is there a rough estimate on what is in a drop and he got mad

at me and told me to use a syringe.

Anyway by his math I would be wanting to take 1.5 ml to get in and around 200mg

of iodine. That is 15 times higher than the max dose he said I could go. I am

super confused and am hoping someone can guide me on this. I want to get back on

this protocol as soon as I can as its been over a week now with no iodine, yet I

dont want to harm myself in the process. If my solution from full orchestra

would just get here already this would not be a concern but its been 3 weeks and

I just got this to get me over the waiting hump. Anyway you guys know more than

I do so any advice you can give me is much appreciated.

Ben,

Lugol's Strong solution is generally 5% and any Lugol's product is made with

water or should not be labeled Lugol's.

Lugol's, Lugol's Strong Solution, Schiller's Iodine are all generally the 5%

unless otherwise indicated. (5% Iodine, 10% Potassium Iodide & 85% distilled

water) Check out the Lugol's USP product at the Xenex website and also the MSDS

they have linked for that product.

(http://www.xenexlabs.com/catalogue.php?cid=1 & pid=484) The MSDS for the Xenex

product is comparable in the CAS #'s and ratio's of the product that is sold by

J. Crow's (they also provide a link to their MSDS).

MSDS = Material Safety Data Sheet

Ask for the MSDS for your product which will verify the percentages used but I'm

pretty sure you will find that it is the 5%/10%/85% and will be a water based

solution. (The warnings and caution's on the MSDS could make a person shudder

and question their sanity for ingesting such a thing ... but is is what is

being ingested by many of us quite happily) And yes, no one should be taking

Lugol's " straight " . It is best to at least dilute with water before drinking.

If you determine that you have the 5%/10%/85% product then dosing would be

similar to what has been discussed here in the past depending on dropper size.

1 drop of 5% would be approximately 6.25 mg Iodine, thus 2 drops of 5% would be

close or equivalent to 1 tab of Iodoral.

I would agree with him that the product can be effected by temperature, size of

dropper, etc... but at some point you just have to move forward. You can also

do a forum search for the recent post I made titled " J. Crow's response " this

has information in it from a chemist who worked with mL, droppers, drop size,

etc.. you may be able to use information that to discern how much of a drop

size you have with the dropper that was provided with your product.

Iodine evaporates quite readily. I would suggest that you obtain a brown glass

one ounce dropper bottle that you work from daily and use the larger bottle to

refill it. Store both bottles upright, away from sunlight and if possible in

moderate temperature.

That is helpful, all roads are pointing to its 5%. The manufacturer can not give me that info because I am not a pharmacist, the pharmacist wont call because he things 130mg per 1ml is suffice information. After talking to a few of you it looks like this solution would be the 5% version and safe to take orally. I am going to start off this week at 100mg, 16drops or 0.77ml as it were and see how it goes. Thanks for all the messages. From: baxrox

Make sure that you are on all of the supporting nutrients, including daily

unrefined salt and refresh your memory about salt loading when/if detox symptoms

arise.

All the info can be found in the New Member Document located in the files.

I thought I sent this before but I did not see it come through so here it is

(again) ...

Here is a link to the MSDS for Medisca Lugol's Strong Solution:

http://www.medisca.com/ecms.ashx/PDFs/en-ca/MSDS/LugolsSolution.pdf

Interestingly enough it does not give the ingredients and ratio's like the Xenex

& J.Crow's MSDS does for their products but I am confident that they are all the

same.
