Guest guest
Hi all, I posted a little while ago about my low thyroid levels and dry eyes. I want to say thanks to the people who responded but I can't find the original post now, sorry. What I was really wondering was if any one could advise me on whether hypothyroidism is a cause worth pursing for me? My blood test results I messed up a bit in my post last time but here they are: TSH 2.55 (range 0.5 -5.5) Free T4 9.9 (range 7.5 -22) According to this there's no problem, and my doctor is very insistent that the levels are normal, but since the free T4 is so low could that be a problem, are they often low in healthy people? Recently, as well as the burning sticking together eyes I have been getting a lot of heartburn and indigestion, it seems as if the food I'm eating stays in my stomach for ages not doing anything? I was given proton pump inhibitors Omezaprole and it made me far worse. I was very bloated with awful stomach ache and it also seems to have caused hair loss and my stomach has felt awful since. It also made me very anxious. I've started jogging and this makes the heartburn/reflux worse. The fact that I'm able to go out to work and do running makes me question if I really have a problem with my thyroid as some of you seem so much worse off energy wise. I've been taking iodine and strong multivits and feel a lot better in myself and my basal temp has gone up quite significantly (my perfectly healthy boyfriend is now lower temp than me oddly!) but the eyes are still a problem and now the heartburn has become an issue. I've got an appointment with an integrated medicine place from Sheila's list soon and I'm hoping maybe they can help, but it's all so expensive. Also, I'm scared of trying thyroid replacement hormone if he thinks thst's the cause, in case it's not and my body stops producing its own? Can that happen? I just feel so awful with my eye and now also stomach problems I'm hoping it might be a cure but also wary. I've been tested for other auto immune diseases more commonly associated with dry eyes and it came back negative. Can having a strong virus such as Swine Flu and Tamiflu cause problems long term with a thyroid maybe? I feel that I never truly recovered from it when I had it a couple of years ago. Sorry for this long rambling message, I just have alot of questions going through my head. I'd be very grateful for any info, thanks for listening. All the best, Jess
