Guest guest Posted June 21, 2011 Report Share Posted June 21, 2011 i had my doctor fax a prescription for an iodine loading test to quest laboratories. when i went to quest, they told me they had no clue what an iodine loading test was, but they had three iodine tests, a hematology test, a random iodine test, and a 24 hour urine test. is the 24 hour urine test they do the same thing as the iodine loading test as long as i take the 50 mg. of iodoral? i did this 24 hour urine test with them before, but i was only taking about one milligram of iodine at the time and the results were very strange. the results were: total volume: 5200 mL (i drink a lot of water) value: 1191 mcg normal: 75-500 mcg/24H flag: High The only other wild card in my history is that my doctor prescribed iodiquinol (yodoxin) for an intestinal parasite (blastocystis hominis) a few years ago. i only did one 20 day round of it, for it really made me ill and exacerbated my symptoms terribly. (i was supposed to do 2 rounds of it, 20 days on, 20 days rest, 20 days on again). the iodiquinol tablets were 650 mg, 3 times a day and they contained 62% iodine, if i remember correctly. that means that i received over a gram of iodine a day for 20 days. i wonder what that may have done to me or my thyroid? barry Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest guest Posted June 21, 2011 Report Share Posted June 21, 2011 A gram of iodine seems over the top. (Are you sure you were getting MILLIgrams & not MICROgrams? A lot of times, docs don't seem to know the difference.) I am assuming that you weren't told to take companion nutrients at the same time, which would have at least eased the detox. This is an important question, because if you were having major detox with MICROgrams, you will need to build up very slowly. Severe detox with GRAMS would be only to be expected...Excess iodine should not be a problem (except for detox symptoms) because the body just flushes out the excess. Dr. Flechas -- -- of ville, N.C., gives a 24 hour urine test for iodine which is titled a " 24 Hour Urine Loading " test. The test was developed by Optimox Potentiometric R & D Laboratory. You begin by saving your urine in the morning, then take 50 MG of Iodoral, then separately collect your urine for the next 24 hours. Send samples of both to Dr. Flechas at FFP Laboratories in North Carolina. His lab will measure how much iodine your body 'retained' (of what you 'loaded' it with) during the 24 hours after ingesting 50MG of Iodoral. If your urine contains a lot of iodine after 24 hours it means your body was already saturated and simply eliminated the excess. But if your urine contained none, or very little iodine after the 24 hours, it means that your body was deficient and held what you ingested on that morning. This is a fool proof method, practiced by Dr. Flechas for years, and recommended by Drs. Abrahams, and Brownstein. Note: The test requires your body to 'dump' the excess of what your body needed. Therefore, people, please understand, you CANNOT OVERDOSE on Iodine! If you take huge amounts all at once to counteract Fukushima radiation fallout, you will have symptoms of high thyroid for a couple of days. Elevated pulse, shaky hands, etc. You will not continue taking high doses of Iodine as it will do no good once you saturate your thyroid. But if you continue with moderate doses (12.5 to 50 MG) you will simply provide for your thyroid gland and your cells what they need to keep you healthy. Some people don't really feel better until they get their iodine dose up higher-- 100mg or even higher. My advice is to raise your dose. Are you having detox symptoms at 50mg? If you do raise it, go slowly.
