It actually isn't as odd as you think. There are some who have the same issues. It is not very common but there are two factors that are probably at play. You are probably very toxic in bromide. Overloading your system with a release of toxins that it cannot eliminate will give you the symptoms that you describe. For some it can be microgram amounts.

Second, as your other doctor has described adrenal fatigue can also be the cause of many of your issues. So it is important to work on healing them as well. Vit C, Magnesium and Unrefined salt all help. Things like Ashwaganda, Licorice root or even an adrenal glandular will help you. I took Cytozyme AD from Biotics Research. Blood work isn't the best way to determine adrenal status. Most holistic doctors recommend a 4x saliva cortisol test. You can obtain one from ZRT labs for around $100 (no doctor needed) through www.canaryclub.org

Have you ever considered doing a liver cleanse. I did the Metagenics 28 day Ultra Clear detox with my chiropractor and it really helped me. My husband just did it with my guidance and he feels a lot better too. He lost over 20 lbs.

It sounds like you have a few things to look into and address before really working on iodine. Have you had your thyroid levels checked (TSH, Free T3 and Free T4)? If your thyroid is low it will continue to tax your adrenals and you will not be able to heal them.

cannot tolerate iodine

so i finally figured out what keeps exacerbating my symptoms. it's iodine. every time i try to take it, even in the smallest dosages, i get brain fog, terrible facial pain, fatigue, arthritic complaints, my temperature always falls, and my hair falls out. it's like it makes me way more hypothyroid. i would have thought that it would do the opposite and help my thyroid. my chiropractor thinks it's because my adrenals are shot that i cannot tolerate it. i just can't understand why so many people are able to take it and do so well. and i'm talking about dosages as low as 250-500 mcg per day. micrograms! i just can't imagine that i am detoxing at these minimal dosages. i take 1/2 tsp of celtic sea salt 2 times a day, vitamin C, and magnesium. i know that we need it and i wish i could take it like others. i worked my way up to one tablet of iodoral in january and then crashed and burned. well, maybe i'll know more when my adrenal test and blood work comes in on july 7th. i'm scared to death to even consider an iodine loading test. baffled. p.s. i'm not allergic to iodine but there is one mitigating factor that i have always wondered if it had anything to do with this horrid reaction i now get to iodine. a few years ago a physician gave me iodiquinol (yodoxin) to treat an intestinal parasite, blastocyctis hominis. i took three 650 mg. pills a day for twenty days and each pill was 62% iodine. that means i was effectively getting over a gram of iodine a day for twenty days. it made me terrible ill, fatigued, and sensitive to heat. still wonder to this day what that might have done to me. i wish i could ask david brownstein this question. barry

It sounds like you have a good doc. It sounds like he or she is doing the right testing. Are you doing the saliva adrenal test? I wouldn't do a loading test right now either if you get so sick from the iodine. The one thing you don't mention that I have heard others speak of when iodine is a real problem is doing a liver cleanse. One of the things people use is milk thistle to help clean up the liver and there is a coffee enema. I know I probably need to take that next step with the liver cleanse - I do the milk thistle but haven't gone further yet. If the liver is really blocked then it seems to cause a lot of back up of the detoxing stuff and make one very sick. With all you have going on I would of course check with my doctor first, but it seems there are always things we can do to make this work better and without all the detox effects that can be so difficult.

I know for me there are ways that I am already so much better that I know I am on the right track, my skin has almost totally cleared up from the constant itching and sores and I have been losing weight - it's really starting to come off with an increase in my NTH. I've got new hair growth (on my head where I want it) and I have more energy than I have had in a long time - except when the detox gets to me - then I have to drink some salt water and take a short rest. I only wish that the thing that helped detox was chocolate but hey, one can't have everything!

I had to pay significantly more than $100 for the adrenal testing. I originally paid $119 and they said I didn't order the right thing, they said I ordered only one cortisol test - I thought I had ordered the four times a day test, so I had to pay an additional $105 for the rest of my cortisol to be tested through ZRT. I just caution others to be very sure what you order.

thanks for responding and the advice, stephanie. i did do the 24 hour saliva

test. i see my doctor on july 7th to get these and all of my blood work results.

(thyroid included). i would like to do the iodine loading test, but i am no

shape to do it yet. once my results are in, i hope to begin the journey of

healing my adrenals and trying to tolerate dessicated thyroid. (i couldn't do it

before because i did not know about the adrenal and ferritin issues). stephanie,

do you think that iodiquinol could have harmed me in some way? barry

I know that fluroquinolones are bad drugs and do damage to many people. I don't know much about the iodiquinol. I just looked at it briefly. The drug reference page I looked at says that it is 64% organically bound iodine. Not sure what that means in the grand scheme of things. I didn't look much at the other ingredients other than seeing it had magnesium separate which is a problem for some. My guess would be that you are very toxic. Did you ever drink Mt Dew or a lot of processed baked goods? There are other ways to be exposed to bromide. But for men it seems to be Mt Dew is the drink of choice. If your liver is just naturally sluggish you would be a person to store everything you are exposed to. This is the issue with many autistic children. But I digress. I am looking into that drug further. I will let you know if I learn something.

thanks so much. BTW, with my sensitivity to iodine and the difficulty that i am

having even tolerating the smallest amounts of it, what do you think the iodine

loading test would do to me? i remember last year trying to take lugols and a

few drops would put me in bed for the whole day with a right frontal sinus

headache that was crippling. every time i tried it, the result was the same.

I would hold off on doing the loading test for now. Work on supporting the other body systems. I did not do my first loading test for over a year past starting on Iodoral. It's a nice to have but not a necessary to take Iodine item.

I hope you don't mine me jumping in, I have been following this due to I can't seem to tolerate taking Iodoral either. I feel the same way when I take iodine. My sinus headache is unbearable. I couldn't deal with 12.5 mg amount and had to quit after a week. I tired three years ago and the same thing happened to me. I believe it's something other than detox. I've been healing my adrenals for a few years now and thought they were fine. I take bio identical hormones ( sex and thyroid ). I'd really like to take iodine I just wish I knew why I react so severely when I do.On Jun 27, 2011, at 10:36 PM, ladybugsandbees wrote:

I had this happen too. It was because my thyroid and adrenals were in such bad

shape. I am not trying it again and up to 100 mg without problems.

I still need to get my thyroid meds in line though. I have an appointment next

month. Am looking forward to it. I had been able to go from 150 mg of natural

dessicated thyroid to nothing, but am realizing that in the long run, I do need

it. I went into hypERthyroid because of using Low Dose Naltrexone. It has

helped me a LOT!!! I feel so different now. Like my immune system is working

so that the things I am doing for my health are able to really work.

It hasn't been easy, but it has been worth the effort. I hope someday to be

able to go back to a real job.

I wanted to follow up on what said about the connection to

adrenals/thyroid. I have been on iodine for 3 months, working my way up to 37.5

mg Iodoral with all the companions. I have noticed that I am having strange

symptoms that seem to be adrenal and getting worse. I never suspected I had

adrenal problems, thought I have low iron and possibly thyroid issues. I just

sent in my saliva cortisol test and waiting to get the results to know for sure.

Are you saying it is best to stop iodine completely until the adrenal/thyroid

issues are healed?

stephanie, it's all beginning to make sense to me now. up until four years ago

when i " woke up " with the help of a dear friend, a chiropractor, i had taken

over 80 rounds of antibiotics in my lifetime fighting what i thought were sinus

infections. cipro and later levaquin (both fluroquinolones) were among them,

especially levaquin (many. many times). i am horrified when i look up the

fluroquinolones in wikipedia. most variations are pulled off the market due to

toxicity and levaquin is next to go. it's a wonder i'm still alive. so now i

know. as hard as it is to bear, i know. stephaine, could you please send me more

info on the metagenics liver detox? specifically which one and instructions how

to do it? thank you sooo much. barry

issues. It is not very common but there are two factors that are probably at

play. You are probably very toxic in bromide. Overloading your system with a

release of toxins that it cannot eliminate will give you the symptoms that you

describe. For some it can be microgram amounts.

> >

cause of many of your issues. So it is important to work on healing them as

well. Vit C, Magnesium and Unrefined salt all help. Things like Ashwaganda,

Licorice root or even an adrenal glandular will help you. I took Cytozyme AD

from Biotics Research. Blood work isn't the best way to determine adrenal

status. Most holistic doctors recommend a 4x saliva cortisol test. You can

obtain one from ZRT labs for around $100 (no doctor needed) through

just did it with my guidance and he feels a lot better too. He lost over 20 lbs.

really working on iodine. Have you had your thyroid levels checked (TSH, Free T3

and Free T4)? If your thyroid is low it will continue to tax your adrenals and

you will not be able to heal them.

falls, and my hair falls out. it's like it makes me way more hypothyroid. i

would have thought that it would do the opposite and help my thyroid. my

chiropractor thinks it's because my adrenals are shot that i cannot tolerate it.

i just can't understand why so many people are able to take it and do so well.

and i'm talking about dosages as low as 250-500 mcg per day. micrograms! i just

can't imagine that i am detoxing at these minimal dosages. i take 1/2 tsp of

celtic sea salt 2 times a day, vitamin C, and magnesium. i know that we need it

and i wish i could take it like others. i worked my way up to one tablet of

iodoral in january and then crashed and burned. well, maybe i'll know more when

my adrenal test and blood work comes in on july 7th. i'm scared to death to even

consider an iodine loading test. baffled.

have always wondered if it had anything to do with this horrid reaction i now

get to iodine. a few years ago a physician gave me iodiquinol (yodoxin) to treat

an intestinal parasite, blastocyctis hominis. i took three 650 mg. pills a day

for twenty days and each pill was 62% iodine. that means i was effectively

getting over a gram of iodine a day for twenty days. it made me terrible ill,

fatigued, and sensitive to heat. still wonder to this day what that might have

done to me. i wish i could ask david brownstein this question.

- What is NTH?

Thanks,

Laurel

am on the right track, my skin has almost totally cleared up from the constant

itching and sores and I have been losing weight - it's really starting to come

off with an increase in my NTH. I've got new hair growth (on my head where I

want it) and I have more energy than I have had in a long time - except when the

detox gets to me - then I have to drink some salt water and take a short rest.

I only wish that the thing that helped detox was chocolate but hey, one can't

have everything!

No that is not what I am saying. But in his case since his reaction is so severe then you have to take things piece by piece. There is no "blanket" way of doing things and that is the problem with all this. People want a set of rules to run with and there aren't any. Since you have been taking it w/o issues then I would continue. Iodine helps to heal adrenals but if you are having other issues as you described you will struggle. You need to address them along with the iodine.

I did, I must have been in brain fog? I don't know, can you publish the name or price of the particular test so I do it right the next time?

Canary Club Diurnal Cortisol 4x $109

A saliva test designed to measure the levels of the hormone cortisol, taken four times in a 24-hour period (morning, noon, evening, and nighttime). Recommended with situational stress and fatigue; an indicator of adrenal imbalance.

This is what I use.

Thank you ,

I think I probably looked at the DI in diurnal and thought two when really that would be BI. Oh well, I did get a lot of other stuff that was helpful in the mix!
