Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, Have you read the new member doc. you were sent when you joined? If you didn’t save it, go to FILES, then New Member doc., then Commonly Asked Questions. Look down the list and you will see this explained. I think it is # 14 on the list. 'My TSH Went up With Iodine". Here you will read that this is very normal when first starting iodine. Please read that and you can tell your doctor the reason why this happens when one starts iodine. It is of no concern at all. Best, Kathleen TSH rising... Hello: My TSH has always been right around 4.0 (here in Canada normal is UP TO 5). I started on Lugols 5% - 1 drop daily for one month. I had blood work done for my Diabetes and I see that only after a month it is NOW up to 4.5. The doctor didn't say anything because it WASN'T HIGHLIGHTED by the Lab. My next Diabetes app't is Sept. and I'm sure by then it will be ABOVE FIVE. My doctor (who knows nothing about Iodine) will freak out and give me a prescription for Thyroxine. What am to do THEN? Guest guest
I believe if you check past posts and the original files you were sent when you signed up for the group, it says somewhere there that a rising TSH is common with iodine supplementation, but it is not a good test to see how your thyroid is doing. Better are the free T3 and T4 tests...those will be in the normal range even though the tsh looks high. I haven't been on the group for very long so maybe someone else will chime in here and chat about why the tsh goes up...I know it has to do with iodine but cannot remember why! Now I don't know how long you have been on iodine, but if it has been awhile then maybe the TSH rising is a sign of something else entirely... Guest guest
Kathleen: Thanks, no I did read it and full expected it to happen to me HOWEVER, I was wondering what kind of weird reaction I'm going to get from the doctor who knows nothing. I thought I would SAY that I'm taking Iodine but the backlash is what I was wondering about. Guest guest
Bonnie, If it was me, I would copy what it says there, as it is explained very well and give it to him. That's really all you can do. Best of luck. I totally understand how you are feeling; but it will be good for you to educate him! =-) Kathleen TSH rising... Guest guest
Bonnie, Does your doc usually test your Free T4 and T3 levels? Guest guest
When my TSH became elevated on Iodoral, I also had increased hypo symptoms. My doc prescribed more Armour and it is only in the last year or so that I have returned to my original dose. If you have no hypo symptoms, you have a chat with the doc. If feel a little hypo, take the drug. BarbF In a message dated 6/21/2011 2:03:11 P.M.
