Guest guest
H Isabel Check out http://xpil.medicines.org.uk/ViewPil.aspx?DocID=18055 where it tells you to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have an underactive thyroid. Luv - Sheila I have been prescribed Codeine Phosphate for my cough but I note the data sheets says talk to your doc if you are hypo t. Since I can't talk to the consultant for two months, I thought I'd see if anyone knows what the issues are? thanks Isabel
Guest guest
Isn't it appalling that doctors write prescriptions and never discuss with you that the medication might interact with either your illness or whatever else you are taking? My aunt was prescribed alendronic acid even though she has been extremely ill from acid reflux, indigestion and heartburn for over 60 years. When she started being sick and there was blood in it I told her to stop taking them and see the GP. She did and he was amazed that she'd had a reaction!! Duh!! What does he think will happen if you give someone with severe acid reflux and acid tablet? Beyond belief!! > > H Isabel > > Check out http://xpil.medicines.org.uk/ViewPil.aspx?DocID=18055 where it > tells you to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this > medicine if you have an underactive thyroid. > > Luv - Sheila > > > > I have been prescribed Codeine Phosphate for my cough but I note the data > sheets says talk to your doc if you are hypo t. Guest guest
HI ISABEL Don't have anything with CODEINE in it. I had a chest infection once, and I happened to mention that as a child I was given a red cough mixture, and this devious GP having his own pharmacy said " would you like to try some of our cough mixture " which was also red. My chest got worse, and ended up having to get the GO CALL OUT TO VISIT, and yes at first he said that he would leave a prescription, until I mentioned that I had nobody to take a prescription to the chemist. HANG ON he said I will have a look in the car to see if I have what was a liquid Trimothoprim. One dose of this caused me to have a rash which itched, so I recognized it as an allergy, and in turn I remembered a woman saying that after she had an antibiotic her body became blistered, but I spotted it in time. Needless to say I got in touch with the GP CALLOUT and they did say if the rash got worse to get back in touch before taking any more of the antibiotic. I could not have anymore, but I have a feeling that a GP was plaing arround with me. My sister was allergic to Paracetomol, and it was this drug that caused her heart to stop and took her life. NO TO CODEINE. Guest guest
Actually acid tablets are appropriate in many cases of acid reflux and many open minded holistic docs have been using this for a while. It is now becoming more and more accepted that acid reflux occurs due to the low stomach acid rather than too much stomach acid and so suppoplementing is appropriate in many cases. I would think you Aunt may have had an ulcer rather than simply acid reflux....and acid tablets are not particularly appropriate unless under supervision. Sally xx Isn't it appalling that doctors write prescriptions and never discuss with you that the medication might interact with either your illness or whatever else you are taking? Guest guest
No, she doesn't have an ulcer, she did end up with an ulcerated gullet though, due to taking alendronic acid. She has 'hiatus hernia' the same as me which I am now beginning to think is an excuse similar to 'you have arthritis' for doctors not knowing (or caring) what the problem is!! > I would think you Aunt may have had an ulcer rather than simply acid reflux....and acid tablets are not particularly appropriate unless under supervision. > > Sally xx

I am going to ask the pharmacist. Agree re docs not even checking interactions of drugs/illnesses, this kind of thing happens to me (and others I am sure) all of the time. Re the hiatus hernia, doc said to me 40% of population has one - when I complained of acid refulux, implication being 'join the club'!!!
