Guest guest
Laurel: I would bet the diarrhea is from the Metformin. It happened to me and took several weeks to get used to it. I love reading the posts here and maybe someone will have a better answer. I'm learning something every day here. I'm still leery about this Iodine but now up to 2 drops a day and will stay here for a month. What concerns me is HOW MUCH DO I REALLY NEED? I have Diabetic Gastroparesis and wonder if this SLOW-MOVING digestion will affect HOW the Iodine is used. Guest guest
Hi Laurel, If you have had the diarrhea on and off for six weeks before you started Iodoral, then I would think it is not the iodine. However, diarrhea is one of the symptoms on the bromide detox list. Are you taking the companion nutrients daily? (magnesium, Vitamin C, Selenium and unrefined Celtic Sea Salt). Even though I would think the diarrhea is most likely due to another cause, if it were me, I would do some Salt Loading to help move things along. Have you tried that? If Metformin can cause diarrhea, it could be that, sorry I have no experience with Metformin. But again, I would do some salt loading. Also, I would start taking a good probiotic to feed the colon healthy bacteria. Best, Kathleen Can Iodoral cause diarrhea? Hi All - I've had diarrhea on & off for about 6 weeks. Guest guest
Hi Bonnie, Remember, iodine that your body does not need, will wash out of the body in urine. Make sure you are taking the companion nutrients and drinking lots of good clean water. Iodine is vital for the health and well being in every part of the body. Guest guest
Both Too much vitamin C in one dose or too much magnesium in one dose can easily cause diarrhea so if those are new habits for you, try putting magnesium oil on your skin and try adding both some C and salt to your drinking water to spread those out. My system tips that way quite easily and had to go to L-glutamine and probiotics to heal my GI tract about 5 years ago and avoid cassein and gluten and and sugar and yeast and packaged foods.. to heal up but that did happen taking those steps..Pam On Sun, Jun 19, 2011 at 3:16 PM, Kathleen Blake <kathleenblake@...> wrote: Hi Bonnie, Remember, iodine that your body does not need, will wash out of the body in urine. Guest guest
Hi Kathleen - The diarrhea is *much* worse since starting the Iodoral. How often do people become hyperT when taking 100mg Iodoral per day? I feel so weak & dizzy & sometimes even nauseous. I'm restless if I just sit around but if I have to get up and do something then I feel like a wet dishrag and even break out into a cold sweat! I stopped the Metformin for now and will monitor my blood sugar. How often should I take the sea salt? I took my temp last night and it was 98.2 which is pretty high for me which is why I think maybe I've gone hyper. Also, at work where there is a controlled temperature I often find myself reaching for the fan. Just last year I was always reaching for the heater. Oy. Thanks, Laurel > > Hi Laurel, > If you have had the diarrhea on and off for six weeks before you started Iodoral, then I would think it is not the iodine. Guest guest
I was just reading yesterday about Metformin. It can cause diarrhea if you are eating too many carbs. The article said it should be used along with a paleo diet. Kathy > > > ** > > > > > > ** > > Hi Bonnie, > > Remember, iodine that your body does not need, will wash out of the body in > > urine. Guest guest
I would give a call to the doc that prescribed the Metformin. Metformin can cause lactic acidosis which can cause weakness and light-headedness. At the very least the diarrhea can throw your electrolytes out of balance. Are you checking blood sugar regularly also? Patients who take Metformin should have their kidney function tested prior to starting the drug and at least annually afterwards. It's also not a drug that one should be on if they have any type of liver problems. Linn > > Hi All - I've had diarrhea on & off for about 6 weeks. Guest guest
Linn - My blood sugar wasn't terrible before the Met, but I'm insulin resistant, and the Met sure made me feel more energetic. I've been on it since last August. Also, I lost 20 lbs from taking it. It did live me slight liver pains for the first few days... but that was last August. I think it has been good for me although I'd like to find out if it lowered my fasting insulin. My fasting bs this morning was 89 which is pretty darn good, and I've been taking half doses of Met since I read that Iodoral can also reduce need for bs meds. And yesterday, gosh I can't remember now if I took only 50 mg Iodoral, or none at all. Talk about brain fog! Anyway, yesterday I either took none, or a half dose, of Iodoral, but still drank the salt water. I felt somewhat better, but still tired. Still had 3 bm's yesterday, but they weren't so liquid. Sorry, TMI. Could the Iodoral be making me hyperT? Some people say being Hyper can also make you tired...? I slept 9 hours last night and could've slept on and on. Thanks, Laurel > > > > Hi All - I've had diarrhea on & off for about 6 weeks. I've been on 100mg Iodoral/day for 2 weeks and since then the diarrhea has gotten much worse. Guest guest
Linn - It's so odd that he didn't mention that to me. He knows I'm on the Metformin, have a history of pcos and worsening blood sugars. I just don't understand him. I am also anemic so I've been taking 30 - 45 mg of SunActive Non-Irritating iron/day. Occasionally I take 2-3 Betaine HCL with lunch, but usually forget. Duh. I follow a WAPF diet 80% of the time, raw milk, grass-fed beef, veggies from the garden, eggs from our own hens, homemade bread, etc. I put digestive enzymes on my list of things to order from Swanson's... can't hurt, eh? Guest guest
Thanks Ido, I've been on long-term low-carb diets, too, but I don't think they are a cure. I've been reading about Syndrome X for 15 years. Avoiding carbs will not reverse insulin resistance, imho, it makes it worse. A cure would mean being able to eat normal amounts of carby foods without a blood sugar problem. I don't think carbs per se are the problem since many primitive tribes eat ultra-high carb diets without any ill effects. I think the problem is more likely to be highly-processed carbs, and I'm not sure that once someone becomes insulin-resistant that it is possible to reverse. Although I ran into one guy online who claims that a month of fasting, followed by a raw diet is enough of a " reset button " . And I've taken alpha-lipoic acid for several years. I'm so sick of taking pills. Argh. Laurel

Guest guest
I do fairly routine thyroid testing while on iodine. I've found over the years that my thyroid doses vary. Last year I was having some hyper symptoms which also showed true in blood work and I was able to reduce to a very low dose of thyroid and have been able to stay at 60 mgs. Couldn't hurt to test thyroid labs to see where you're at. Linn > > > > > > Hi All - I've had diarrhea on & off for about 6 weeks. Guest guest
I know lots of folks that have cured their insulin resistance and can eat well. Now that doesn't mean that they can go back to eating a SAD diet. Exercise will definitely help insulin levels. Linn >

Guest guest
Linn - So true. One of my grandmothers was a tiny little thing and she had a raging bad case of type 2. Lost her eyesight and both of her legs. I'm not real sure what her diet was like though cuz I wasn't around her that much. I've read that the skinny ones have much worse cases. That they are " metabolically obese " . Would love to hear about your friends who have overcome insulin resistance. What do you think are the most important things to change? I think that iodine is one of the important things, yes? Because it helps improve the hormone receptors? Guest guest
I think the iodine is important also, but the folks I know made radical changes in their diets. I think that it's vital to normalize all hormone function and correct any vitamin and mineral deficiencies also. Guest guest
Laurel,I realize I am way late on this, but I don’t see anyone has addressed your hyper concerns. Iodine will NOT make you hyper, it is used to correct both hyper and hypo thyroid problems. The symptoms you are seeing can be detox symptoms. There is a list I believe in the new members documentation of detox symptoms. I can’t remember, but you need to be taking the companion nutrients and I see you are taking the salt. Your temps still only being 98.2 is still low, even though it is better for you. They are not indicating hyper, as they are still not normal. My guess is that you are detoxing, and may need some good liver support/cleansing, and remember that sometimes you have to have a healing crisis before you feel better. It seems you are dealing with several issues that are probably being effected by the iodine, and may make you feel bad for a while. But remember the iodine is healing your body, and it may take time. Donna in IL Hi Kathleen - The diarrhea is *much* worse since starting the Iodoral. How often do people become hyperT when taking 100mg Iodoral per day? I feel so weak & dizzy & sometimes even nauseous. I'm restless if I just sit around but if I have to get up and do something then I feel like a wet dishrag and even break out into a cold sweat!I stopped the Metformin for now and will monitor my blood sugar. How often should I take the sea salt? I took my temp last night and it was 98.2 which is pretty high for me which is why I think maybe I've gone hyper. Also, at work where there is a controlled temperature I often find myself reaching for the fan. Just last year I was always reaching for the heater. Oy.Thanks,Laurel>> Hi Laurel,> If you have had the diarrhea on and off for six weeks before you started Iodoral, then I would think it is not the iodine. Best, Kathleen> Can Iodoral cause diarrhea?> > > > Hi All - I've had diarrhea on & off for about 6 weeks. I've been on 100mg Iodoral/day for 2 weeks and since then the diarrhea has gotten much worse. I feel quite weak and sometimes light-headed. I wonder if I've gone hyperT. Has anyone else experienced this? > > Also, I've been on 1000mg Metformin /day for several months. That's an rx that also causes diarrhea when you first start on it. Flechas never said to reduce this dosage, but now I'm reading that many people need to reduce their blood sugar meds when on KI. Maybe I need to reduce the Metformin, but the diarrhea did pre-date the Iodoral.> Thanks,> Laurel>
Guest guest
Magnesium can give you diarrhea too, if you take too much of it. It is in all sorts of supplements so be sure to read the labels so you are aware.
