I thought the GP had to put something like 'this is for hypothyroidism' - or some sort of explanation for prescribing NDT. B
Guest guest
The GP should write Erfa 'Thyroid' and then " for the treatment of hypothyroidism " and for the very first prescription, he should write a short letter to the Pharmacist telling him/her the reason s/he is prescribing an unlicensed medicine. S/he just has to write something along the lines of ~ " Mrs **** is unable to regain her normal health on levothyroxine " . This should be officially done once a year, but my pharmacist never bothers about this now. The pharmacist will then contact either Idis World Medicines or Pharmarama who will then source the Erfa 'Thyroid' and this should take perhaps a couple of weeks, but after that, they should always keep some in stock for you.
