Guest guest
I read somewhere that if you have a T4 to T3 conversion problem, then it's a problem with the Liver being able to make that conversion (I don't understand it myself) but that you need Milk Thistle and Selenomethionine. What did your TSH/fT4/fT3 look like on the 3 tests you had. Any relationship there?? Dr. Flechas told me that removing gluten from your diet will not cure Hashimoto's. He said that many things can cause Hashimoto's and that once that gene is turned on it can't be turned off. Is he wrong? Thanks,Laurel > > > **> >> >> > Hi---I have a friend who was diagnosed with this yesterday and they said> > one of the things NOT to do is anything with iodine---and I seem to remember> > that being on the list before that one really should take iodine for> > this---I cannot remember, but is this true? Guest guest
I figured this out on my own but when I mentioned it to my doctor she told me that's not true. I didn't believe her and started taking a lot of liver support and went from 69 ALT to 24 and I'm still working on my liver. I feel my conversion is much better now. My ALT went up from 21 to 69 during the time I was on T3, I have no idea why that happened but it did. Now that I'm on Naturethroid it's coming back down. I think that insulin resistance plays a big role in conversion too, when my fasting insulin was reduced my conversion from T4 to T3 was much better. As for gluten free, I heard that healing a leaky gut will speed up this process. My husband did research on this and knows of supplements to take for this problem. I know that Hashimoto's can be caused by a virus too. Guest guest
Thanks for that info. Yes, it's soooo complicated. I am suffering from Frozen Shoulder at the moment but I am quite sure it's thyroid related. I think the swelling from Hashi's has caused a type of pinched nerve in my neck such that my whole arm is sore. I think this is what stops me from mobilizing the shoulder.I went off gluten 2 weeks ago. Except for two infractions, I've been pretty darned good considering I used to feast on the stuff:-)) Dr. Flechas told me that removing gluten from your diet will not cure Hashimoto's. Guest guest
Funny you mention liver support. Since I have this frozen shoulder which I believe is thyroid related I feel I cannot tolerate alcohol much. The enzyme responsible for alcohol degradation needs zinc so I must remember o add that in in good amounts. Dr. Flechas told me that removing gluten from your diet will not cure Hashimoto's. Guest guest
Hi Hope you don't mind me chiming in -- but there can be several causes of poor T4-T3 conversion, and there are several types of deiodinases in different tissue which convert T4-T3. And it's not just the liver that converts T4-T3. For instance, the pituitary gland also converts T4, and when someone is taking Synthroid or another T4 med, their TSH can be artificially suppressed due to the pituitary converting a the T4, since it does so more readily than the liver. The higher dosage T4 they take, the more suppressed TSH. Poor conversion may also be due to poor nutrition (lack of selenium, perhaps) genetic lack of a one type of deiodinase, or antibody to a deiodinase. Tissue cells use Type II 5'-deiodinase The thyroid just isn't that simple, unfortunately for thyroid patients. > > > > > > ** > > > > > > > > > Hi---I have a friend who was diagnosed with this yesterday and they said > > > one of the things NOT to do is anything with iodine---and I seem to > remember > > > that being on the list before that one really should take iodine for > > > this---I cannot remember, but is this true?
