Guest guest
I would think it couldn't hurt and would likely increase healing time, but it will also likely sting a lot. This wouldn't be at all unbearable, but worth knowing ahead of time! =) I have used Lugol's on my skin and am seeing great results - for pox I would just apply a small amount to each one, it can be very drying for the rest of your skin which likely doesn't need to be dried out. Make sure you keep a close eye on yourself, my understanding is that the older one is the more of an issue chickenpox can be - like causing problems internally - airways, lungs, that kind of thing. If you start having breathing problems please go the ER or Urgent Care right away. Higgins http://becomingaspecialneedsadvocate.blogspot.com/ Topical Lugol's for chickenpox ? Guest guest
Thanks . At first it could seem quite comical that I ended up with c. pox at age 49, but yeah, it can be quite dangerous for adults. I just put a 2nd dose of iodine on all the spots. I'm still getting new ones and I put the iodine on them too. So weird, most of them are on my back and head. Guest guest
When my son had a horrible case of chicken pox- spots on spots, I put oatmeal into the blender to make oat flour. I made like 10 cups and on a 3 year old soaked him in tub with it. I mixed some in lotion for his face and ears. All the dots shrunk up to pinpoints and didn't bother him much at all any more. He swam under the water in the tub but his face still needed the lotion. It also helped him through poison ivy and poison oak. Hope this helps you. You may need the Shingle shot at some point. Guest guest
Hi Pam. I may try that oatmeal thing. Poor kid! I've seen pictures of little toddlers just covered in the pox. How many oatmeal baths did you give him? And yes, as soon as is medically possible, I'll be getting the shingles vaccine for sure! Guest guest
First, I think iodine might work well for chicken pox as it resolves fever blisters fast, seeming to almost instantaneously reduce the swelling/taking out the liquid that presses and causes swelling and pain. Secondly I would strongly caution you...regarding the vaccine for shingles to avoid it at all costs. Go to www.mercola.com and search for articles concerning the vaccine. Finally, 2 500 mg olive leaf extract capsules taken with 1000 mg vit c every 4-6 hours will resolve shingles, cold sores - and I suspect also chicken pox- quicker and reduce the pain of an outbreak exponentially. Guest guest
Lynne and Pam, I understand that getting a vaccine is a personal choice, but I just want to share that in the last year I've had 3 different clients that had shingles vaccines and they all got shingles anyway. I'm not sure that the vaccines didn't help bring it on since all 3 (women) got their next bout of shingles within a year of the vaccines. One woman was sure her vaccine was the cause but I really don't know. I just know they don't always work. Guest guest
I know two families that have high school and college age kids who have had the chicken pox vaccine that keep getting shingles. They told me that they are hearing that many kids who have the chicken pox vaccine are not only getting chicken pox multiple times, but are also having recurrent shingles. My kids had the vaccine and have not had that happen, but everyone's system is different. I have been told that my kids need a booster shot now that they are college age as there are efficacy issues. As you said Karin, vaccines are personal choices and we are choosing not to do vaccines anymore based on a correlation with downturns in health and vaccines in my kids which become more serious with each vaccine they have. My acupuncturist has mentioned that a good Chinese doctor who does acupuncture can help a person get through shingles more quickly and less painfully. I have not heard her talk about if it helps with chicken pox though. Guest guest
Hi , Please do some research. Vaccines do not prevent anything but health. They suppress the immune system and often, if not always, cause a chronic form of the disease they are meant to prevent. They are nothing more than the biggest scam the world has ever seen and the major reason health (human and animal) has deteriorated so rapidly since they were introduced. Allopathic medicine was built on drugs and despite all the information(against) and the lack of scientific proof that vaccines "work", the allopaths cling to their cash cow beyond reason. Lots of info on the scam artist Jenner.Nonie iodine From: lynne1109@...Date: Sun, 26 Jun 2011 00:08:41 -0400Subject: Re: Topical Lugol's for chickenpox ? Hi Pam. I may try that oatmeal thing. Guest guest
The occurrence of shingles has increased as the chickenpox vaccine was introduced. One theory as to why this is happening is that people used to be repeatedly exposed to naturally occurring chickenpox, which primed the immune system, so they didn't get shingles. Now that wild chickenpox is hard to come by, shingles is on the rise. I hadn't heard that about kids with chickenpox vaccine getting the illness several times, but that would support the idea that vaccines actually introduce chronic cases of the diseases they are preventing in acute form. Pick your poison. -AngieOn Jun 26, 2011, at 2:21 PM, Jeannie wrote: I know two families that have high school and college age kids who have had the chicken pox vaccine that keep getting shingles. Guest guest
Hi Lee. Good to know about the olive leaf extract and vitamin C for shingles. I think the iodine is helping to dry up the chickenpox but it is hard to say for sure since I've also been taking Valtrex for it. The Valtrex may be doing something too because I notice that any new spots I've gotten since starting it don't ever even get to the blister stage. Meanwhile, the ones I already had before starting the Valtrex have gotten quite big and fluid-filled. I am sure the iodine is probably doing something to help though. Thanks for the advice! Guest guest
That is interesting. My kids were both very exposed to chicken pox as toddlers and preschoolers multiple times. In fact we lived in two different neighborhoods where my kids were the only ones out of a couple of dozen playmates who did not come down with it. I can't tell you how many phone calls I got from moms saying a playmate had come down with it and to mark my calendar... I got them vaccinated as adolescents as our pediatrician scared me saying that it would be very serious for them to get chicken pox after childhood. I wonder if all of the early "priming" is why my kids have not been getting shingles like other vaccinated kids? I am going to ask the friends whose kids keep getting shingles if they remember their kids being exposed to chicken pox prior to the vaccine. Guest guest
Make sure you are taking a B vitamin complex. The virus lives on the nerves. I had shingles, took the vitamin and was hiking in Kauaii the following day.
