Kenny, place the thermometers in a glass of cold water (not

freezing) to bring the mercury down to the bottom again. It can be difficult to

shake the thermometer so the mercury goes to the bottom and it has to be done

with a couple of sharp flicks of the wrist - and done away from any table or

chair where you might break it. If you can imagine your reaction to being stung

with a wasp on the back of your hand, that's about the action. Hold the

thermometer tight though. However, the cold water should do the trick. You will

probably be able to watch the mercury falling back to normal.

My son does have severe allergies but he regressed in to Autism quite late at a

little over 3 yrs old.

I know this is going to make me sound stupid but I have purchased a couple of

mercury thermometers in the past but after one reading they get stuck on a high

position and neither myself or my wife has managed to shake them down without

the risk of breaking them, the in your ear ones like the doctors use will be my

next purchase.

NAH! - patina a thermometer in the freezer would ruin it.

Thank you Sheila

I did stick them in the freezer for about 1/2 an hour or so and it did'nt

shift, I will definitely give the cold water a go.

Cheers Kenny
