Firstly i'd like to thank Sally, Trish and for replying to my post

last week. Sorry I didn't reply sooner.

I started 50mcg l-T4 on Saturday. Since then i've felt a little worse if

anything. I think I am catching up from a stressful few weeks leading up to the

diagnosis. I suspect my adrenals are shot and I am not sure what to do about it.

I always feel like this after any type of stress or activity.

My NAX has just arrived, i've been taking as much Vit C, Mg and B vits that I

can tolerate for the last couple of weeks. Not sure if it's helping though. I am

not sure when and how to start the NAX? For some reason I am scared of taking

it!

Today I am feeling as bad as I ever have in the last year. I have been in bed

most of the time for the last few days, being too exhausted to get up. However I

just got up to put a load of washing in the machine and had a funny turn. I am

so dizzy and lightheaded, palpitations (120 bpm) but BP was quite high for me

(130/85), severe headache (amoung worst i've ever had), breathlessness etc. Can

hardly see what I am typing here. I have a routine GP appt tonight to report

back about the Endo appointment, if I can get there without collapsing (hubby

taking me), sure it won't be any use though. The Endo wouldn't consider that I

had any type of adrenal problem, saying that if I did i'd have lost weight not

gained it....doubt the GP will be interested either.

Any help with what to say to GP later would be much appreciated if any of you

see this in the next couple of hours.

Many thanks

Hello ,

If it were me, I would stop the Levo immediately and first of all do at least 7 days on NAX, up the Vit C slowly to the max you can tolerate, Mg, and add Co-Q10 (200 mg), Selenium (180 iu) without any thyroid hormone. The effects that you are experiencing are very likely down to your weak adrenals – weak adrenals cannot support thyroid hormone. You first need to condition your adrenals before putting thyroid hormone into your system.

Start with one NAX with your breakfast. Nothing to be scared of.... honestly. If for any reason you do not tolerate the NAX, then you'll have to find an adrenal support that you will tolerate, but most people feel very well on NAX.

After about a week on adrenal support I would re-start the Levothyroxine, yet not go in with 50 mcg , but half of that.... splitting the pill might be difficult, so perhaps your GP can prescribe the 25 mcg strength.... just tell him about your side effects and ask for another script – you can use the 50's maybe in a few weeks time. Don't bother to tell him about the adrenal side of things, he won't understand anyway....

Good luck,

If you feel your adrenals are shot, you should not be starting

on any thyroid hormone replacement until you have boosted your 'shot' adrenals.

Is it possible that you can get the 24 hour salivary adrenal profile done

through Genova Diagnostics? Check out our FILES section from the Hone page of

this forum web site, and open the FOLDER entitled 'Discounts on Tests and

Supplements' and then open the Genova File and you can order the test from

there following the specific instructions there in order to claim your TPA

discount. You could start by ordering Nutri Adrenal Extra from Nutri Ltd -

check out the File there and claim 33% discount. You should supplement with NAE

for at least 7 days before starting L-thyroxine.

Start by taking one tablet with breakfast for 10 to 14 days and

then add another NAE with y our lunch, and after another 10 to 14 days, add

another tablet with your lunch. You can take up to 6 NAE daily, but if you

still have symptoms, this is the time to decide whether you need something

stronger such as Isocort or even a course of HC to properly boost your

adrenals.

Please don't be afraid of taking NAX (NAE). This is made up of

nothing other than the vitamins and minerals your adrenals need to boost them.

I would be more afraid of what might happen if you don't boost your adrenals.

If this was me, I would stop the L-thyroxine for the moment

until further investigations had taken place. Ask your GP to test your levels

of ferritin, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, magnesium, folate, copper and zinc,

because if any of these are low in the reference range, no amount of thyroid

hormone is going to be properly utilised in your cells.

Luv - Sheila

Thanks and Sheila. I have eased back off the thyroxine, gradually

starting NAX. I went back to the GP For a check over and apart from being a bit

tachy i'm ok. Temps fine etc. She offered to do 24 hour urine cortisol and 24h

catecholamines because she and the cardiologist think I am having inappropriate

adrenal surges. So I will stay off the NAX now until that is done at the

beginning of next week. As we know the urine tests aren't ever so much help, but

I can't afford to do the salivary ones with Genova at the moment. She said if

these results were remotely doubtful she'd write to my endo asking for the

syncathen test. Peace of mind that there is nothing extreme going on will

hopefully help me calm down and focus on what I can do myself for my adrenals. I

think I have got myself into a real tizz about everything which isn't going to

be helping my adrenals calm down and heal. I'm also getting Coeliac antibodies

done, liver function, U+E's and a couple of other things I can't remember just

now. This is a new GP that i'm seeing because my other one has just gone on

maternity leave. She seemed thorough and open minded so I am hopeful to get a

better relationship going with this one. Maybe later on, if all else fails she

may consider NDT or T3, i'll work on her.
