FYI -

The papers clearly and logically illuminate the flaws in the thinking that a

suppressed TSH means that a patient is suffering from excess thyroid hormone and

that thyroid medication dosage should be reduced. The authors present compelling

arguments that for some thyroid patients, particularly but not exclusively those

patients that have been on calorie restrictive diets, the thyroid system has

adapted such that a lower TSH now correlates with healthy thyroid hormone

levels. The authors argue that FT4, FT3 results and the symptomatic response of

patients should be of primary focus during thyroid hormone treatment rather than

the TSH, even if the TSH is totally suppressed.
