Guest guest
The light is only on in the refrigerator when you open the door, the rest of the time it is off. I doubt this small amount of time will make a difference, besides you are using the amber bottles which blocks out most light. Higgins http://becomingaspecialneedsadvocate.blogspot.com/ How can I keep Lugol's out of light while storing it in the frig I am making my 1st home-brewed Lugol's today so I can get a stronger solution and take just 1-2 drops instead of nearly 1 ml. I got my potassium iodide & crystals measured for me & have 4 & 1 oz amber glass bottles ready (that will be sterilized shortly) + mixing supplies (a plastic/silicone mixing spoon, plastic mixing cup & silicone funnel). Since I have serious gut problems (from life-threatening post-surgical infections) all my meds are suspended in pure water only & must be refrigerated. To avoid the effects of the refrigerator light, would putting my Lugol's bottle inside a thumb from a latex/stretch glove be a good way to block the light while it stays in my frig? If that is not a good way to block out the frig light on the Lugol's, any other suggestions are welcome.
Guest guest
You DO understand the light goes out, when you close the door? And the light is like, 40 watts?SUNLIGHT breaks things down fairly quickly.Dim electric light, not so much. You already have it in an amber bottle. That should be sufficient. And, unless you have great difficulty swallowing 1ml of liquid, I think, based on your post, that you are OVERTHINKING this, and should re-consider your plan to make it 'extra-strong'.Just my opinion,...Jim > > I am making my 1st home-brewed Lugol's today so I can get a stronger solution and take just 1-2 drops instead of nearly 1 ml. Guest guest
if you are really concerned about it, you could simply put it into a brown paper bag and put it in the refrigerator.ArielOn Tue, Jun 7, 2011 at 1:30 PM, <Luff2sail@...> wrote: The light is only on in the refrigerator when you open the door, the rest of the time it is off. Guest guest
In the instructions with a couple of recipes it said that it was important to keep the Lugol's in the dark -- that it was better to keep it in a dark cabinet than in the frig to avoid the frig light. That was why I asked. Unlike many I cannot put Lugol's into anything (like juice or milk) to mask its nasty taste; that's why I am making it strong enough to take just a couple of drops. I now know I can cover the larger bottle to keep it in the dark (as it will be in longer-term storage) & the smaller-daily bottle in the refrig without covering it. THANKS!! > > > > > > > The light is only on in the refrigerator when you open the door, the rest > > of the time it is off. Guest guest
You might try putting the drops in some lemon juice. My daughter can't swallow pills and takes a couple of nasty tasting supplements, I use a small paper cup, add the supps into fresh squeezed lemon juice and have her chug it down while holding her nose. Bypassing the sense of smell will eliminate almost all the taste. Linn > > > > > > > > > > > The light is only on in the refrigerator when you open the door, the rest > > > of the time it is off. Guest guest
Wouldn't lemon juice, like orange juice, convert the iodine to iodide? I think I got that right. Anyway, turn the btrown one not brown any more?? Jaxi On Wed, Jun 8, 2011 at 12:01 AM, Linn <mwm1glm@...> wrote: You might try putting the drops in some lemon juice. Guest guest
We have not established that this is an issue since many of us (myself included) take our Iodoral / Lugol's with Vit C and it has worked fine. So at this point I am standing by the idea that we should not worry about it until we determine otherwise. Guest guest
Not with just a small amount of fresh juice and I do add it water. Sorry, it was late last night and I forgot to add that. Guest guest
Perhaps in another year or so I may be able to have lemon juice, but I do not tolerate it (or any citrus or any other acidic food) yet and have been unable to have any for several years now. My doc hopes I can do lemon juice cleanses 1st thing in the AM once I can have it. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > The light is only on in the refrigerator when you open the door, the > > rest > > > > > of the time it is off.
