Ben, sorry to hear about the cancer, good luck with it. You can make your own Lugol's and it's far cheaper, that's what my husband and I do. Unfortunately, my computer went crazy and I don't have the URLs handy for ordering. But you can buy the potassium iodide (SSKI) from an aquarium store - it's the same good quality but cheaper. The iodine you'll have to buy at another place that I don't have handy. I'll check with my husband, he has the info. We blend it together and it's the same thing as Lugol's. It costs like $30 a year for a huge supply that way.

Hey Guys,

I have read lots about people saying their lugols is allot cheaper than Idoral. I got a month's supply of Idoral (at 50mg per day) but I would like to up that to something more around 200mg per day as I am treating cancer with it. It's going to get pretty pricey so I was hoping to reduce cost a bit by going the drops route. Now I found Lugols on Utopia Silver http://www.utopiasilver.com/products/supplements/iodine.htm. How many drops would I be taking and how long would a 2 ounce dropper last me? I am trying to price out how many bottles I would need for a month and if in fact its cheaper than the pills. If someone could council me on this I would really appreciate it.

Also it says when purchasing I should also purchase Thytrophin which will help with the iodine absorption. This isn't mentioned in the iodine protocol, is this needed or something the website is just trying to up-sell? To my knowledge my thyroid is ok, but the site said most people have a deficiency. Thoughts?

Many of us with clear symptoms of hypothyroidism still test OK, & can't get docs to prescribe us thyroid meds. Some docs are saying that this is because various environmental toxins skew the test results. This would suggest that many people who think their thyroids are OK are wrong.AnneOn Jun 13, 2011, at 12:48 PM, Ben Roche wrote:

I pay about $40.00 Cdn for crystals that make enough 5% to last our family

months. I've only made one batch so far and we have lots left. We use about

160mg/day among the lot of us.

So I'd say the crystals are a better deal.

If you want to achieve that level of supplementation I would suggest buying

potassium iodide crystals and making your own SSKI. You can find the crystals

on ebay. I bought mine from a seller called the full orchestra. I have read

others on here have dealt with him as well.

Lugols has Potassium Iodide (KI) and Iodine. SSKI is another product. http://www.tahomadispensary.com/istar.asp?a=6 & id=110067!162
